1) Viewers should best wait until seeing the movie before making a proper judgement (they might like it or not like it), and 2) "Cowboy Bebop" has no relation to ther Anime franchises so whatever disaster a few Anime-based U.S. movies faced in the past shouldn't have to affect the U.S. live-action "Cowboy Bebop" movie's chances of succeeding in appealing to a large crowd (counting both Otaku and non-Otaku).
For all you know, if enjoyed by lots, this movie will likely to add a boost to the popularity of the "Cowboy Bebop" Anime in North America as it may inspire more non-Anime fan audiences to buy/rent the "Cowboy Bebop" T.V. series DVD volumes later on.

Have you checked out the Speed Racer movie yet? Call me crazy, but it's actually pretty fun. I mean sure, the critics hated it, but they were expecting Matrix with cars, so they were missing the entire point anyway.
I hope it does go into the "Probably Definitely Not Going to Happen" pile. The anime world does not need to see another great series be made into a RL abomination (which is most likely what it would be).
Somehow, after actually watching a few episodes I really don't see Keanu Reeves as a "fluid like water" type of guy. I get that he's a fan, and I think it's cool he was enthusiastic about this, but his mind can't make that real. Sorry, dude.

I'd try to act surprised, but I don't feel like expending the energy needlessly.

@Ace:
I agree. Speed Racer was awesome. Haven't seen Astro Boy though. I wonder how that one turned out.

Half a billion dollars??? Exactly what the U.S. economy needs right now...
I'd say wait a bit on that project.

Let's wait another 20 years or so before we talk about this again, shall we?
