I feel the need to mention that since writing this, I've bought the game and logged almost 3 hours on it. So far, it's the most fun platformer I've played in five years, and there doesn't seem to be anything in here that would totally ruin the experience if you've never played the first Shantae. It's quirky, cool and it only costs 12 bucks, so if you have a DSi and internet access, I can definitely say this one's worth the purchase.

From what I've heard, DSiWare will still be sold on the 3DS system, so if you want to hold out that long, it shouldn't be a problem.
I suppose we won't know for sure until the 3DS comes out, but for now I think it's a safe bet.
