Although I'm under the bias that most movies based off something else fails, it definitely sounds like this is going into the wrong direction. The reason fans would be upset with this is because it is completely going off into a different direction as in failing to capture what truly makes Uncharted as well Uncharted. If it can't even possess a grasp of the basic storyline and characters, you might as well call it something else since it is clearly not the Uncharted its attempting to base itself off of. Its fine if you wanna make your own movie, but just don't do whatever if you're supposed to make a theatrical rendition of something. Also, no movie can satisfy all the fans anyways but the least you can do is attempt to. So if you never heard of the franchise then fine but the fans that do will care.
Then what the deal in calling it Uncharted if is not gonna be the same story and characters! They should change the title or make another national treasure movie >_> jeez
Well I always like when they make a movie that is really based on a video game, meaning that to please the fans. But still, maybe this movie will also come out good. We shall see.^^
As previously stated by others, I think this movie wouldn't be looked at so negatively if this was just a brand new creation. I like these types of movies to actually follow the plot in the game and not go off into some sort of AU thing. Especially since I loved this game, I don't want to see it turned into something else. I want it to be exactly the same. Now, of course I know that in reality, that's not going to happen. However, I would prefer it if the director/producer/whoever just turned this into their own original story if they're going to, in my opinion, dramatically change the plot. I would rather this movie not be associated with the title of Uncharted at all. That is not to say that the movie will be automatically horrible, as a matter of fact, it might turn out to be really good. But it would be really good for what it is and not as Uncharted. Knowing that this was supposed to be based off the game will leave me looking for things to pick at the entire time, thus leaving me in a perpetual state of grumbling throughout the film because "that didn't happen in the game."
What Ace said. I'm fully willing to believe that the movie could be fine for what it is. But if someone's going to go in a completely different direction from a licensed intellectual property, then why not just leave said intellectual property alone and make your own thing? That way, you still get to make the movie that has you all "turned on" (his words), and you don't have to upset a community of existing fans.
Except this is less "alternate take on an existing franchise" and more "New Indiana Jones movie starring Will Ferrel and focusing on cross-stitching". I say this as someone who's never played the games. I'm not saying this movie is bound to be bad, I'm just suggesting that if you're going to get ahold of a franchise name and then adapt it into something that has an entirely different feel than the franchise in the first place, you might as well not be adapting that franchise.
Sounds like a lame family sitcom to me :<
I think he's just taking advantage that he can turn it into a movie so he can transform it into his own idea... :|
Never heard of the video game, but if David O. Russell is given permission to do this work, I say let him do his thing his way. No offense, video game purists. After all, we are not talking about a franchise reboot. It's just an alternate version outside the franchise's canon.
