Late comment is late. Shows how much I check news. I only own the first Guitar Hero game only because of this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbpxNnJaHjA
Six-year-olds and nuclear weapons: a combination that just can't be beat.
Just kidding, ActiVision keeps their mits outta Blizz's stuff.
And yeah, I only have one guitar hero game, and part of the reason I even bought a playstation was for rock band, which in turn made me start learning to play the drums for real.
No one likes Activision except Activision. Good story about the On Tour an its three sequels locked in the back. You could make a Jimi Hendrix statue out of all those! I smell an art project.
I believe the last contact info I came across for them placed their offices somewhere in Mordor, so I'm really not surprised that they've decided to top their own bastardry yet again.
Along with killing the franchise, support for current games will also end. So for everyone who bought Warriors of Rock or DJ Hero, after this month there will be no more DLC, and there will be about FIVE HUNDRED layoffs related to shutting down Guitar Hero.
There were three? Dang, I only barely knew of the one, and it seemed hardly appealing to me 'cause it costs like, twice a normal DS game. Peripherals are a you-know-what.
This is the thing about Activision: they make a lot of games and they currently make more money than any other game company out there. But this isn't because they make lots of great games.
They just happen to make an ASS-TON LOT of money off of Call of Duty and World of Warcraft (being that they're merged with Blizzard). If you want to believe the stories, part of the big fallout of Activision and Infinity Ward (the guys who created Call of Duty whose founders were then dumped on their asses hard last year) was because Infinity Ward had ideas for new games they wanted to make, and Activision went "no, no, no, just keep making more Call of Duty, the kids like that."
I didn't like the direction Guitar Hero was going and I gave up on them after the third one. Business-wise, ethics-wise, everything they did felt less like "how can we expand and evolve the music genre?" and more like "how can we milk every ounce of cash out of this genre before the golden cow chokes to death?"
Actual true story from big corporate retail: at my store, in the back warehouse, our electronics lock-up is still filled with over two hundred units of "Guitar Hero: On Tour" for DS Lite (and yes, the game ONLY works for DS Lite due to the shape/size of the "guitar-grip" add-on). Some idiot in the head office either screwed up, or truly believed that people wanted to play Guitar Hero on a crammed up little handheld attachment, and we just got tons and tons of stock for that.
Yeah, no one cares about Guitar Hero: On Tour. Or its THREE sequels.

Perhaps if they didn't release three games a year, barely advertise the new ones and then expect every single one to sell a billion and a half copies, this would not have happened.

It's sad to hear Warriors of Rock did poorly because its awesome that you can play the entire "2112" track from Rush on it, something every self-respecting Guitar Hero gamer should have the chance to do.
You have shamed the greatest band in the world, Activision. SHAMED!

I actually own DJ Hero 1 AND 2! They're cutting that off? Damnit! At least I still have a Disc of Daft Punk mashups!

Again, kudos, Activision.

You've gotta admit, they didn't need a separate game for ever single band.

@TimeChaser:
Start a campaign to get it into Rock Band. Harmonix still cares about this stuff.
And their game has keyboards now.
