why is naruto even on the list?

As an old school otaku, I think the most interesting thing about this list is that if you took the same survey ten years ago (before DeathNote, One Piece, Code Geass, Naruto, Bleach, Black Butler, Gurren Lagaan, etc), it would look almost entirely different.

So does this list really reflect the "best characters ever" or is this list merely an artifact of what is popular today?

Of this list, only Dragonball and Sailor Moon are twenty years old. In another twenty, they'll both still be on this list. Can we say the same about some of these other characters?

That's what makes it so fun - in ten years we could do this again and half the characters will be forgotten and a whole new batch will take their places. But I bet Ash, Sailor Moon and Goku still make the list.

I hate to admit it, but I'm kind of disappointed in the results of the top sixteen. Although they weren't drastically different than what I was expecting. I'd really like to see a whole list of the results - just to satisfy my own curiosity. Anyway, I certainly plan on voting [I'm even pretty sure who's got my votes] and I will be quite interested to see who ultimately wins.

Yay Lelouch got in the top 16! I voted for him as the best character. Ichigo vs Alucard!? I can't choose!

The age of an anime has nothing to do with greatness. It is the characters, the plot, the storyline, what you take away from it... THAT is greatness... are you going to remember these episodes and characters 15 years from now? Did they make you look at yourself and your life and take a new perspective? Did they actually affect you? Great shows do this.

FMA got me hooked on anime. It was a wonderful gateway anime. XDDD But, anyone who knows me also knows the special place I hold for FMA, so my vote will automatically go to Ed Elric.

No Lupin III, Gendo Ikari, Shinji OR ONE OURAN CHARACTER? Wow. Pleasantly suprised. Nonetheless, I agree with every decision (except for Sesshomaru and Alucard. Don't kill me, InuYasha and Hellsing fans.)

No it isn't. Sesshoumaru is the angsty one, with more mystique allure about his lifestyle, besides being the villain who can't quit being a hero when it counts.

Plus he doesn't get in the way of the self-insertion romance of [name]xInuYasha or [name]xKagome. (Mostly the former, admittedly.)

Im surprised Zoro didn't make the cut.. As badass as Spike is, Luffy would totally beat him in a fight, but its kinda not fair.. Either way i still vote for Luffy. Next would be Goku Vash Kenshin then Alucard.. In my opinion anyway. =P Itll be interesting to see how this turns out. GO LUFFY!!
