The one and only thing this reminds me of is "Team America: World Police"... Just another example of Americans getting all uppity thinking that everything they do is correct (I'm an American). Gives those of us with a shred of common sense a bad name to be honest, and its only one of many groups who take their stupidity too far.
Unfortunately in certain parts of the state they are already trying to compare eating a turkey to eating your pet dog.
By the way they are targeting CHILDREN. Also people from other cultures do tend to eat dogs and cats and i'm sure we eat things that other cultures find horrible eating. It isn't a matter of right or wrong here...it's a matter of trying to tramatize kids and even worse making them look down upon any cultures who eat the animals they would not. PETA is more then just annoying...they are attempting to corrupt the youth and we have enough problems with people trying to do that already who have no business doing so.

Mario has been promoting the fur industry?! That explains the surge of teenage boys wearing chinchilla bikinis!! (Sarcasm, in case you were really concerned.)
Just another classic example of PETA targeting the wrong audience. The people wearing racoon-dog fur are (in all likelihood) not the people playing Mario. Just sayin'
PETA missed an opportunity to educate people. My brother and I were talking about this the other day, and he didn't know tanookis were real animals. They could have said something like, "Hey, that new Mario game's great, and the Tanooki Suit's adorable, but you know, REAL tanookis are being killed for their fur, and we don't think that's cool." They could have done that, but they didn't. On the upside, I love the game on their website where you play as a gory, skinned tannoki chasing Mario.

I can't believe they didn't raise any flags sooner, considering that the Tanuki thing is a nod to a much older game.
I'm also reminded of them being against Cooking Mama. Heck, if they're that steamed about a video game that features preparing and cooking meat, why aren't they ranting and raving about Food Network (as far as I know)? I hear Thanksgiving is a big time for slaughtering turkeys, after all.

Yeah, I remember Mario violently slaughtering a tanuki and not hitting a block to pick up a leaf to go and fly in the air or disguising himself as a statue.
Strangely, I've forgotten all the creatures I've stomped on, burned, frozen, and even made dizzy by running around them in circles, the throwing of vegetables and eggs at creatures, riding around on dinosaurs who wear shoes, transforming into a bee, a ghost, and a frog, and the countless number of mushrooms that I picked up in a land of talking mushroom people.
Because, you know, picking out one solitary aspect of a recent game, one that had existed decades ago, for a floundering system and using that to promote a cause for being media whores is absolutely justified if it means you get attention for your hypocritical organization.
By the way, I'm gonna stop ranting now since this has been said by others elsewhere.
America's favorite domestic terrorists at it again. These idiots make me sick. I could on for quite a while on why these people need to go away and for good. But I wont, as there isnt enough room for the profanities.

@SunfallE:
I didn't see that one! That's hilarious!
I love Nintendo's response to PETA. Basically, they said, "Um, you realize it's not real, right?"
