actually encourage this! First reading this kinda made me iffy and now i'm watching their videos. I like their little twists. I'm actually starting to w00t for them.
I'd agree that the 'edgier' side has yet to be seen. Ironically, other critics have blasted the group for changing too much - including the fact that Bunny is seen with her hair down instead of her classic odangos.
They have to walk a fine line. Their real challenge is in keeping enough the 'same' so as not to alienate the fans while changing enough that the interpretation is in fact, a fresh take.
Holy shiz, Sailor Moon, that takes me back~!
I didn't think it was so bad, I think they made a great effort!! Though the part in the beginning made me laugh, nyaha<3~ still, I give them some good ol' claps. For a minute there (and a long time ago there), I thought everyone had forgotton about Meatball head. Maybe someone will remember Tenchi Muyo? :D
*siffles* I almost wanna be a kid again!!!

From what I've seen, parts of the video felt like sketch comedy (especially in the prologue), not that I oppose sketch comedy quality. Though Sailor Moon's image in the feature wasn't quite as good looking as what I expected, I find this fan project to be a good experiment in creating an Americanized take of the Japanese comic book classic, and the film's portrayals of Tuxedo Mask, Queen Beryl, Luna, Naru, and Melvin are amoung its strengths. Though I never watched the live-action "Sailor Moon" T.V. series from Japan, thinking to the official promo images I found of it on the net a few years back leads to opinionize that this fan project at least has a way better image of the Sailor Moon characters than what Japan tried to pull off (no offense), and heck, the portrayal of some of the characters featured in this recent project are even closer to the manga image while showing a American setting and a more Western shoolgirl fashion. The actor playing Tuxedo Mask, though not resembling the manga version in terms of hair, at least well captured the character's essense.
i'm sorry to say but this was horrible i think they shouldn't try to make anime into real live show or a movie because the fans will be excepting a lot more. I know this isn't professional work but taking sailor moon and turning it into that...... doesn't float with my boat and i've been reading the manga book that has been released again and this just disappoints me because i usually expect more. Now i must say that i did like the pretty guardian sailor moon live action in japan I did enjoy that a bit but i think anime should be kept to drawing than trying to make it real life with people.

While I think the idea is good, the short was horrible in my opinion. Sailor Moon was like my introduction to anime many many years ago, and it will always have a very special place in my heart. I didn't think this was doing it justice in the least. I agree that this was far from egdy. It was just a bunch of cosplayers filming their acting, with some CG editing thrown in. Granted, the budget was probably nill, but I was not impressed at all. The most interesting thing I found about the short was at the Crown. What arcade game was Bunny playing? Anyone?

... This is "edgy"? I'm sorry, when I think "edgy" I think of a darker, more serious telling of the story. But this... is about as far from edgy as you can get.
I can forgive the dodgy acting since this is a fan production, but character names like Bunny, and using the same style of costumes... It's like that new version of Wonder Woman they were developing for TV. The minute you saw the costume, the concept of "edgy" or "modern" was ruined.

It's smart to do a short first... test the waters.
Edit: Just watched it.
I'm not sure what to say. What would have been different if they had a real budget? It was definitely inspired, but I can't see this becoming a movie. It had more series potential.

I give this fan project a 7.5/10.

@MilkycatStudios:
I think it was one of the side-scroller fighting games - most likely Sailor Moon R.
