I think it's admirable that he wants to give younger, newer developers opportunity while at the same time continuing to work with smaller development teams within the company. From my perspective, it seems like a move made out of respect and love for Nintendo. Props to him!

While I don't think it's the time to start bawling and declare the end of an era, I do have to say that I can't disagree with the rationale. Miyamoto is certainly a monolithic man with many titles under his belt so not being in his shadow would help to blossom new folks to make themselves a name.
This is all optimism on my part, but I think something like that could happen. :)

I've sort of given up on Nintendo for a while now, but's it's still sad to see an icon go. Few men could wear a turtleneck like Miyamoto-san.
