After seeing the Backroom and refreshing it several times, I think it's safe to say that we won the battle already and might not have to face the "over 9000" challenge". The comment count in the backroom has stopped at 5,528 and hasn't risen any further. I guess the count really did stop by 12:00am EST.

I don't really understand what's going on (probably cause I'm tired from events today) but I'll comment here of what I think about theotaku XD If I'm way off then just ignore/delete this~ Personally I think theotaku is the best place for art, fandom, social area for anime/anything, etc. Everything here is rather clean and organized. I like most of the features here (I never really used the chatroom here before so I can't say much about that). The people here are nice and amazing. I have yet to see anyone not of the sort (though I prefer not). The artwork here is wonderful. Everyone's so talented! Even if they consider it not very good, it's still a wonderful effort. I see a lot of creativity and spirit in people that now I'm in just a lost for words and apparently babbling but don't mind me.

Numbering comments would be a nice little feature, although I honestly don't see many articles reaching to this many comments. I remember back on the grey site (here we go) that a page system was introduced so that every 50 comments started a new page. That would nice to have again, but, like I said, we don't breach the threshold very often. These past few days have been an exception. Thread-like comments would be very interesting, but it makes me sad to think not all would see the glory of Otaku Cage Match. *smacked*

Actually, Adam did say that there will be a "new feature related to comments" once the record was broken. So something really is gonna be changed in the comments soon.

And you're right, the Otaku Democracy thing should serve as a clue on what's happening. I'm guessing Adam wanted to have the in-page comments to have the DISQUS-like feature of nested comments, but he might just do it instead with the pop-up comments, which would probably be something quite unique for this site.

Yes, I've been thinking along the same lines. It seems quite possible that the new feature will be related to the comments, and organization, etc. Especially given the other recent post "Otaku Democracy: Pop-Up vs. In-Page Comments" - where it's clear that the comments and their nature are being evaluated now. Although, that's not necessarily the case. It could just as easily be related to the portfolios, etc. But I like some of the ideas you've thrown out there!

Here's a thought I've been having in the last few minutes.

Could the new feature be something that involves replies to comments? Could it be like the DISQUS comment system wherein all replies and sub-replies to a comment are in a nested format?

Could it be a feature wherein people can choose to hide or expand all replies to a particular comment, for a more manageable commenting experience?

Or...wait a minute! If Adam changed the rating system in the site from Hugs to Votes, does that mean that we would soon have the ability to vote for a comment?! Like the "Like" feature for comments on Facebook?!

It's all speculation, but I have a feeling this might be the feature. Of course, Bossman can always surprise us. Who knows, we might have a Timeline in our Portfolio next year.

If all of the news articles started reaching 300+ comments, then we would need some fancy new things indeed. Perhaps such as a way to sort the various comments into the different conversations that have started up. For instance - maybe someone would want to be able to sort through and see only the comments that make up the Otaku Cage Match thread. Just sayin'.

Or even a simple thing such as a comment number on each comment would be interesting. In that case, there would be no disputing who had made the n'th comment. Although, it's really impossible to judge who made the 1957th comment, and it cannot truly be assumed that comment was made here on this post, as the comments apply to everywhere on the site, for this challenge.

So today, I'm going to school you all on cameras, specifically the really nice and swanky ones called DSLRs. DSLR stands for "digital single lens reflex". That refers to how the lens and the viewfinder share the same mirror and what you see in the viewfinder is what you're going to get on your film in the end! This is actually really important, and very useful! But this also means that since the viewfinder and lens share the same parts, when you close the shutter to take an image, you also can't look through your viewfinder anymore.
