Well, I've also never seen any of the GitS movies and the only Satoshi Kon I've really watched was 'Millenium Actress' when I caught it on TV a year ago.
Considering that some would say it is the greatest anime movie OF ALL TIME, that's a bit of an overstatement. It has genuinely strange flaws and deserves to be criticized for them. However, it also led to incredible advancements in culture, inspiring many works including The Matrix and Paprika. It is just one of those films worth watching, regardless if you like anime or not.

Looking forward to watching 'Akira' on AS; sadly, I've never seen it yet.
