My school has had them banned for a long time, but no-one really follows the rule anyway (and it's not like teachers can know they have it unless they see them using it) I think MP3 players are banned too, but that doesn't work either. So I don't really know why they bother to be honest. If a student does get caught with one the teachers usually just tell them to put it away anyway. And in an emergency I think it's important. I can understand though why it bugs them, since they're distracting.
omg i so remember that!! i remember there were kids who were selling those babies like hot cakes!! the teachers got so pissed! yu-gioh cards followed the same pattern, (there's where i made my money, i helped this one guy sell about 200 cards...lol)
...lmao... that takes the cake. electronic devices from home are banned my school, but that still doesn't stop over half the student population from bringing Cell phones, Ipods, DS'... heck, I even take ll three to school!XD and some of my teachers don't really care... :/
perhaps they shouldn't banned them, but pass a law stating they should stay in the locker or backpacks. just so they don't disrupt class, but it's there if you need it.
(*falls over laughing*) ...Oh wait, they're serious? o_o?
Forgive me if that seemed a little rude, but I got flashbacks of my elementary school days when Pokemon cards were banned. Let me tell you: it didn't work. (What's creepy, now that I think of it, is the fact that a mini-"black market" of sorts was established not long after the ban. I can only imagine what the kids of Japan will do...)
They actually banned cells in my old high school, but no one followed the rule anyway... But the phone is still useful, what if you have an emergency and really need to call home...?
well, i can say, even if they do ban cell phones, it's not like it'll get rid of the problem. people are still going to sneak their cell phones, and there are rules that you're not supposed to have it out during school hours, or u'll get it taken up, now i think people could make the argument that what if they have plan changes or something goes wrong with a ride home? i'm not how that'll exactly go, but if japan does it, i can see the US (who is already thinking about the idea itself) will probably follow suit.

At least in where I live, cell phone bans only occur in the classrooms at my university campus, not in its hallways.
