Yo, Shinigami and Mask. The live japanese Death Note remake has already been released, so I suggest you cut your loses and grab the old English dub. However, the Death Note remake is pretty shady so don't get hopes up. As for Cowboy Bebop, I'm ecstatic.
Totally agree with ya. They had a NASCAR cartoon yeeears ago and they just ripped the new, sucky Speed Racer off from that that! I SEE WAT U DID THAR, NICKTOONS! I saw the movie remake with my dad, and I sorta liked it. The only turnoff was there were waaaay too many flashbacks. I mean a lot, so it got old real fast for me. On the upside, I liked the color and effects. I never really expected for Spridle to flip off someone, though! XDDD I lol'd I give the movie a 3.5/5 Pretty good. ^_^ Besides, those Oscar-chucking yahoos don't know what they're doing. I mean, C'MON! They ditched the new Batman movie! WHAT?! Just goes to show ya, Hollywood's fickle! -_-#
As for me. I really liked the Speed Racer movie. I didn't see it in theaters because I was really afraid for the series, but it was AMAZINGLY good. They used the same effects sounds in the movie that was in the show such as when the cars jump over, it's the same sound as the old show. The characters are really similar to the show as well, without being as cheesy, because, let's face it. Speed Racer was an amazing cartoon, but its age shows sometimes. Another thing I really like about the movie was the fact that when Chim-Chim and Spridle are seen together in their pajamas, Chim-Chim is wearing pajamas with a kid face on it, while Spridle is wearing monkey-faced pajamas. Just little details like this totally make the movie amazing! You guys should see it and give the movie a chance. It was an amazing movie. Just don't take it seriously, it's just for fun.
Honestly, I truly feel sorry for the guys and gals who worked on the American live-action "Speed Racer". I mean, they worked very hard to do a good movie that would appeal to a lot of die-hard Anime fans in North America (including those of "Speed Racer"), and now such harsh negative criticism. All these people wanted to do is an alternate telling of a classic with their creativity. That's all!
I just hope the same problem doesn't happen to upcoming American film adaptations of "Cowboy Bebop", "Astroboy", "Gatchaman", "Star Blazers", "Robotech", and "Dragon Ball", otherwise this could mean the end of the road for America's creative attempts of making its movie takes of Anime to suite the taste of today's generation of Anime fans in North America.
And by the way, "Karate Kid" has nothing to do with Anime, yet.

yah, i heard that all the flashy lights were what turned the older generation off from that movie. i can see why, i think they had every color possible in that movie! lol
as for karate kid, they REMADE THAT! O_O that's pretty strange...i don't like them remaking old movies, that's just like not cool.
i fear for the worst for Dragon Ball, since i'm a die hard fan, but for the Cowboy Beebop i'm only slightly concerned. since it doesn't have giant beams shooting from people's hands, and since they are actually consulting the japanese before doing anything, at least this shows they're not deliberating trying to butcher it. (i think)
just as long as they don't remake YYH into a movie i'll be okay (or ouran)
I claimed it to be bad as soon as I heard "live action" and "Speed Racer" way before it even hit theaters. I didn't even see it. I didn't want to be horrified.
I cant help but fear what these live actions may become as well. I havent seen the live-action adaptation of "Speed Racer", but i do still wish to see it, even though ive heard some pretty horrid reviews of it, even from anime fans. Im sure everyone in the universe agrees that the upcoming Dragonball movie has already dug its own grave in remake obscurity. As for the Karate Kid remake, I dont know why someone would want to remake something that is already considered a landmark in visual pop culture. It's like remaking "Die Hard" without Bruce Willis, or a Rambo film without Sylvester Stallone. I do however continue to stay upbeat about the Cowboy Bebop live-acion movie, solely based on the possible addition of Keanu Reeves, and that ive read in some anime magazines that Shinichiro Watanabe will be overseeing alot of things, which certainly looks good. I just cant help but to feel discouraged when someone goes and remakes a movie that everyone is familiar with (Karate Kid). When you think of Karate Kid, you think of Ralph Maccio, Pat Morita, and "Wax On, Wax Off". When you start messing with things that people have branded into their minds and souls as classics and stables of Pop Culture, you are basically begging for trouble. It just seems that someone lacks the creativeness to build their own product, and is forced to use what someone else created to mix and match something into their own creation. Im not picky about remakes, im just saying that some movies dont have to be remade, simply because they stand the test of time as is. Only time will tell though, until then - we will have to wait and see how everything turns out, who knows, we may all be surprised lol.

Wait, the Death Note remake really is going to push through? I hope they're not going with Zac Efron as KIRA.

I actually liked the Speed Racer movie....what I saw of it at least. I was half concious in the theatre because I'd been at DisneyLand all night.
>.<
Not looking forward to DBZ, Cowboy Bebop, Karate Kid or The Last Airbender though with their icky casts. I wish Hollywood wouldn't do stuff like this.

I'm more interested to see how well Uwe Boll's gonna clean up at the Razzies this year . . .
. . . the man seriously needs to stop making movies.

From what I've heard, the Speed Racer movie actually wasn't that bad.
Now the Nicktoons animated remake series. That deserves to be buried in a hole guarded by radioactive alligators.
