If this is really the best they can do at trying to console the Avatar fans, then I strongly suggest that they just give up on the movie completely. Korean kimonos, WTF? And I note that the main cast hasn't changed, not for the better, at least.
....And this is why my assignment for English is going to be a letter written to them arguing about their casting choices.
I don't mean to sound rude to them, but extras of different ethnicity won't give the movie any feel unless the main cast (which should consist of a caucasion, an Asian, and two dark-skinned people) is all while.
When I first heard that there was going to be an Avatar movie, I got really excited. (Even though they announced early on that it was just going to be a summary of the series itself.)
Now...well, my level of dissapointment isn't anywhere NEAR the DBZ movie level, but reading on their idea of "what attire goes with what culture" has made me cringe on a level that's beginning to rival that of the lastest Mummy movie. (Please don't ask for details--the historian in me will go on a rampage that won't settle down for quite some time. >_<)
Sucks sucks sucks Dx
I live in Philly and I saw the ad in a newspaper. I LOL'd at the Korean/Belgium thing and showed my History teacher.
He laughed too :D
And why artisan crafts? Are they going to film someone weaving a basket?
I wished they wouldn't make the movie altogether...It would just mess up everything about Avatar :
When I first heard of the movie for Avatar, and saw the actors...I shook my head in shame. I don't even think the problem with these anime-adaption movies can be fixed. It's the same dumb/general "action-packed" plot, in which everything from the original show is hacked. How are they even going to take a series' worth storyline and squeeze it into 2 and a half hours? I bet there's going to be five minutes worth of character growth LOL. These are the plot problems that can't be fixed even though they throw in some Asian actors.
I mean, look at the new Street Fighter movie with Chun-Li...I don't remember her being a secret agent. I can see "disaster" from a mile away. People haven't even heard of the movie and it's coming out in early Feb.
And the DBZ movie? What??? My friend showed me a picture of the main character =_='
Maybe they were being ironic about the traditional cultural whatever? I mean, a Korean person wearing a kimono is still wearing a form of cultural attire - not necessarily their culture, but y'know.
"If you're from Belgium, wear lederhosen." XD I'm sure some aspiring actors will actually do that :D But I don't see why they have to be good at crafts, I doubt they'll have time to weave a basket in the movie...

While this sounds admirable, once I saw who was still part of the main cast, I felt rather ill.

Still hilarious, though.

I give up with these people, I think this will turn out just like the DBZ movie.

To quote one parody fandub from YouTube which I feel makes the best impact: "My soul hurts."
Kudos if you guess correctly which one.

They'd better fix this "little issue."

Avatards are not to be messed with.

@jannycats:
My favorite part of that article is that lederhosen aren't really from Belgium... and that Koreans don't wear kimonos. Priceless.
