I was happy to hear this. While he's not who I want (Zuko's voice actor would be awesome), at least it's not Jesse. I just didn't like when he made an announcement on MTV and it seemed he thought people didn't want him because they thought he couldn't play the part. Nope, his acting was the main question. It was the fact he was white.
I get you, but my deal is with the martial arts side of the coin. The predominate attribute of the Fire Nation is their martial art form, based on Northern Shaolin, which most definitely is from China, not India. If people want to get picky about the actors races, they wouldn't be satisfied by this casting choice (unless all they care about is that the person has the physical appearance of someone from that general part of the globe). I haven't heard a single person complaining that the actors weren't Indian. It's been "Why aren't they Asian/Chinese/Inuit?!?!!"
I've seen Dev's acting, and he's quite good. I'm sure he will be a fine Zuko. I just don't know if this is the appropriate response to the protesting. And I repeat, I don't think there should be a response to the protesting, other than casting who will truly best fit the part.
And my original comment wasn't meant to spark conflict. ^_^'

Actually you're incorrect. You can see a lot of Indian culture in the Fire Nation. The word 'agni', as in 'Agni Ki', means fire in Sanskrit. Most of the artwork in the Fire Nation, and the Sun Warriors is very similar to Indian artwork. Even some of the clothing has Indian influences.
England did control India up until the 60s (if I'm remembering correctly) so England has a very large Indian population. And yes, being Indian does make you Asian. I don't think there would be any complaints if an Asian-American was cast, so it should work both way with England. A country that speaks English, the language the film in being filmed in.
In one way I'm glad it's not Jesse but... >-< I'm not sure I like the new guy either. Why couldn't Dante be 16 again?! *cries and goes to watch the movie Hook to cry over Dante some more*
I just don't know if this'll turn out to be a great movie, period. Live-actions tend to be disappointing; just wait till we hear the angsted cries of DBZ fans in a month.
Okay, yes. A step in the right direction. They're steadily moving east from America to England. Get a Russian to look at the role, fire him and viola! next stop Japan! Though if they think for a millisecond Jackie Chan could be a prospect, I am officially not watching the movie, not even to see Shamalamadingdong crash, burn and fail. GO BACK TO HORROR!!
I don't care who they cast as long as he can portray the character well. Can they just get on with filming, please?
And this guy was born in England, his parents in Kenya. He's supposed to be more Asian how?? India isn't the culture Zuko would be representing either. >.< I don't care, I just wish they'd get past this issue already. *growl*

Methinks the producers took the "Asian" complaint way too literally.
