They certainly aren't coming across as very creditable by creating such a game. If anything they're making everyone who prefers to not eat meat look bad. =P Gotta love it when one side takes things to an extreme and look stupid in the process.
Well, now that I've played the game, I need to say that I'm severely disappointed in the noticeable lack of leg-hold traps.
Also, comparing the meat industry to the holocaust is incredibly insulting and disrespectful to the more than ten million people who died during it, as well as the millions more who lived and suffered through it. The comparison doesn't elevate the cause for not eating meat, it graphically downplays the real evils of human history. Don't do it.
Finally . . . do people actually crumble tofu as a means of food preparation?! As a Chinese man, that offends me.
Good idea. At this point, though, I'm just going to go through and tell you were you need to get your points straightened out, because nothing you've said so far holds water.
Anyway, if you really think about it, the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of animals is like Hitler's attack on the Jews, Poles, Slavs, Gypsies, homosexuals, and the mentally and physically handicapped during the Holocaust.
Uhh, no it isn't. That was done out of bigoted malice. Killing animals large-scale is done out of convenience. (Also, I never heard of Auschwitz fattening up their Jews so the Aryans could have a nice rib roast later.)
We're also taking specific groups because other groups are not as tasty or convenient. I don't know of anyone who'd breed gila monsters for food. Gazelle, maybe.
Unhealthy chemicals are added by man. Faulty point there; if we suffer by what we added to 'preserve' our meat, then there's something wrong with the preservation process, not the meat.
I didn't say that being vegetarian had anything to do with one religion or another. People simply choose not to eat meat; that's independent. What I said was that the only legitimate argument against eating meat is found only in Christianity (specifically Genesis). I also said that it was rendered moot (specifically, a few chapters later in Genesis).
Whether or not you are sickened is not the point. You believe that eating meat is wrong. I do not. For all you know, I might believe eating plants is wrong. (I do not.) But I'm not planning on screaming bloody murder about someone else's decision.
Especially not in a video game, aimed at kids who are supposed to be protected against that kind of graphic imagery.
I got no problem with you voicing your protest, either. But this was a bonehead move by PITA, and that bonehead move is what this article was about. Ain't a soapbox. Not for anyone.
Also, what Des did is known as Trolling, and you fell for it. Hook, line, and sinker.
Honestly, I think this is silly. Cooking Mama is a cute and fun game, I don't see any reason to do this. I am a vegetarian, but I wholeheartedly respect that it's other peoples choice to eat meat. I chose not to. But I don't think everyone else should, just because I did...I don't admittedly like the process, and I don't like the thought at all of killing animals. But I also doubt we could live solely on vegetables. And it's not like we've always had things like Quorn and Tofu to make it easy to get the right nutrition as a vegetarian either. So eating meat has always been normal, as it is with any animal that's an omnivore.
I do wish people wouldn't be so extreme about this ^_^; *hides under table* >_< Maybe I shouldn't say anything....but I just think it's better to respect peoples decisions. The game itself is tasteless (though I didn't actually want to play it...I just think it probably is. I'd probably be sick) and people won't take it seriously because it's far to extreme. They needn't be so pushy about it. I think that other people are right...they'd be better making a vegi friendly game and showing the company the kind of game they want. Though since vegetarians are the minority...it might be wasted funding to make a game like that. And that's hardly the companies fault. O_o I wrote a lot...oops.
It is the same. Animals across the globe are brutally slaughtered daily by other animals just so those animals can survive, yet that pain and suffering doesn't seem to bother you. And humans are not the only omnivores by any means.
The only differences between animals and humans are that humans have a choice in what we do, that we have abstract sentience, and that we have a conscience—but these are massive, staggering differences that cannot be reconciled. Any arguments about how we humans would like our situation if we were reversed with animals is inherently flawed, for once you swap positions you must also swap everything else.
Also, that's a great rebuttal to Desbreko. I think it would have been better for your image if you had just ignored him.
I'm not going to condemn you as an "ignorant vegetarian". If that's what you feel led to eat, that's fine. But it is not your place to condemn our preference, either; in fact, the only argument against eating meat that even has the slightest hope of standing is found in Christianity, and not only does no one ever want to go there (or else is a rabid Christian-hater =P), but the fact itself is countered by one event and a command.
Point being, I suggest you fall silent. No one here cares much for your cause—only that you decided a ruckus needed to be made. No one here plans on taking you seriously. Not even PETA is taken seriously anymore. They're viewed mostly as a curbside Doom prophet or an attention-hound, or a combination of the two, and attempting to protest eating meat by making a slasher video game has only hurt their image.
Seriously. We're all laughing our butts off at them over this. Adding more 'righteous indignation' at this point is just going to make us laugh harder.
And it'll make Ace give long, also 'righteously indignant' speeches back. But no one ever takes him seriously, either. =D
Vegetarians are cool. I respect your decision to go green and I totally encourage you to keep it that way.
What I do not accept is you calling me a barbarian for enjoying a damn burger once in a while. This is where PeTA crosses the line regularly. They treat meat-eaters like another species entirely, devoid of feeling or respect for anything other than their stomachs, while at the same time elevating animals to a level of regard above that of their own species. To top it off, they make this brutal, violent and tasteless game, which tells me that they have no regard for the mental well-being of the children 10 and under it's obviously aimed at. PeTA thrives on propaganda, from Breast Milk ice cream to "Your Daddy Kills Sea Kittens." As such, they are widely regarded as a joke among most informed groups, as opposed to less extreme organizations such as the SPCA.
As for the game itself, play it yourself and note the nonsensical hairpin turn Mama makes towards the vegan side after making the giblet gravy. Sure seems abrupt for someone who was enjoying all that inhumane torture five seconds ago.
In conclusion, I don't care what you think about my eating habits. I have a right to speak my mind and I'm bewildered at the fact that you have such low regard of the majority of your own species.

I hope the PETA version includes instances of things in leg-hold traps. I honestly feel that was the one thing really missing from the actual Cooking Mama series.
{/snark}
I think it's more of a case of "oh, lets just let them shoot themselves in the foot" than anything else. 'Cause seriously, making a slasher-style game in protest to something like Cooking Mama had to have been a decision made by morons.

I know it was a comparison. It was also a shock-tactic; most people will gasp at the mere mention of the holocaust.
But the motivations are entirely different. So are the environments. Hence the faulty point.
Also, leave off flaming other members. You're not required to respond to them if they insult you.
