A good question about this is whether this will affect people who don't download Anime off the net and just watch them online streaming sites (Youtube for example) instead, including the viewing of subs created by Kadakowa Channel, which is showing "Haruhi-chan" in subbed and non-subbed formats.
I mean if its for videos, that understandable, people work hard in that industry and downloading them takes away money from them and their families. Pictures on the other hand is crazy. With pictures is how the fandom spreads and putting people in jail for that is just a waste of time.
thats astually silly. why would you want to ban anime pic they are only cartoons. its like when the cartoons are very voilent or dangerous. i dont get them. and any way if they ban the anime pic i would be sad because they are my fav and they always make me happy heh
Euuggghhh. I think that really isn't fair, because what if you bought the series that you put on youtube, and use it for an AMV? Does that mean that everyone that makes AMVs for contests at conventions will be charged? Even if you bought the actual series but downloaded the fan-subbed series?
Anyways, it's more of a threat. You can't charge millions of people for downloading that stuff. I wish them luck with this new bill =_=
Maybe this will on day convince the studios in North America to try to make more official subs for classic Anime (like "Great Mazinger", "Gundam ZZ", "Space Adventure Cobra", and "Captain Harlock SSX"), seeing that a lot of Anime of the 1960s-1980s get illegally downloaded fansubs because most North American companies aren't willing sub/dub a lot of movies/OVAs/TV series from the earlier decades of Japanese Animation's history as they're more in favor of subbing/dubbing Anime of this decade.

So they're going to charge about I dunno...over a million people for watching things on youtube and other various streaming sites? Okay, now, I'm not against them doing something, because it IS ripping the companies off, but like "jannycats" has said previously, they can't go into everyone's home and check. (Besides, half of us are in AMERICA, I'm sure the government would be like "NO, privacy issues!") But if anything, just go and force everyone with videos of them on their accounts to take them off, if they don't, they delete your youtube account. See, now there's an easy solution.
Sounds more like a threat than anything else... And how do they plan to stop people from illegally downloading anime? They can't just come in every home and check their browser favorite. But it's about time someone alerted the Japanese about all the people putting up anime on Youtube, the site is stuffed full of them...
