Oh God! I hope they don't make this movie! 1)They won't be able to get the technology right 2)They're using American actors?! *shudders* 3)To be honest the way Sagara's personality is it's going to be difficult for any actor no matter their nationality to portray him correctly 4)The abuse some characters take in this anime, Sagara for example, is just unrealistic My main point is they won't be able to keep it true to the original story! I hope they don't make it!

eh...people just can't get it through their heads. The titles sound kinda similar... If they adapt Full Metal Panic!, then they should also adapt Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu?
Actually, I believe that a TV Tropes member summed up the problem everyone has with HSM when describing Twilight on the It's Popular Now It Sucks page:
What about the fact that remakes are there for those who aren't yet familar with the old movies that the recent remakes are based on? Plus, remakes and adaptations sometimes help increase popularity and fanbase size of the classic TV shows, movies, and books that ended up losing fans in the process during the past few decades (for instance: the 2000s remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" helped the popularity on the classic itself).
As for Zac Efron, I now believe he has what it takes to play Sousuke Sagara in the upcoming "FMP" film, even with how his hairstyle usually appears on film. It's just that the cameramen will need to use filter tricks to alter both the skin and hair colors to allow the actor's appearance in the shots to match the Anime character he will portray.

Efron a manga fan? I used to be just indifferent towards him, but that's pretty cool. And think of it this way. No matter how bad this remake is, it can't be as bad as DBZE.
Here's a really good idea: Hollywood needs to stop re-making old movies and TV shows and making live-action versions of anime, graphic novels, and books. They just need to stop making garbagy movies and shows. I would gladly wait however long it took for Hollywood writers to actually sit down, think and use their own imaginations, and come up with some fresh, original ideas. Also, this break would give us the chance to weed out those that are actually talented performers from the punks who just want their 15 minutes of fame because they are somewhat prettier than the rest of the population.
Not to mention the kid loves 'Back to the Future' and use to pretend to be Marty McFly... and did a good job on SNL this weekend. Plus the manga stuff... Efron is moving up in my book.
As for the movie... I think it could work well in the USA, but I can see why producers would hesitate. Look at the Transformer movies, they cost A LOT to make. If I was a movie exec I'd be wary to, nobody wants another 'Pluto Nash' on their hands.
See what I told you guys? Don't herniate over rumours. You'll live longer.
Also, Zac Efron played a young Simon Tam in a flashback on Firefly. Regardless of where he is now, I still have to give him props for that. Only a little, though.

@kugen:
you gotta admit though, he could quite possibly make a good Sosuke. Of course, if he doesn't already, he'd need to learn how to shoot a gun!

Now we know that he's actually human and not some pretty boy caked with make-up. I have added one cool point to your name Efron. Don't lose it.
But I don't really want to see you as Sousuke.

Edward had a life before Bella? Which included... much scrap booking, swear jars, fainting during health class and Flock of Seagulls hair?

Wait wait wait wait wait, lemme get this straight:
1) The FMP movie might not happen?
2) Zac Efron WON'T be starring in it? (that's a good thing)
3) ZAC EFRON'S AN OTAKU? Damn.

Maybe he'd make a hot Edward if they made a movie about Twilight: The Early Years
