I mostly interpret this as an excuse to keep leeching free stuff off the internet when a perfectly legitimate source is available at a reasonable charge.
Okay, I really don't blame the people at FUNimation for the leaks. That's just silly. It seems that this whole streaming thing is new to them and they're still getting the kinks out of the system. Now, having the shows cued up ahead of time makes sense on one level. It gives them time to make sure that everything works and they have the peace of mind knowing that there won't be any last minute panic about getting the show onto the site. Someone going in and figuring out where the show is on the server would take a little doing.
Frankly, I'm putting total responsibility for this mess on the head or heads of whoever leaked the videos. It almost looks like the actions of some vindictive brat who wants to make life difficult for a well respected anime dubbing company and all the people who use their service.
(Note: It seems the entire video archive on the FUNi site is down for maintenance. So I am guessing that they have their tech people working on this. I just hope that I can start watching FMA again.)
I think the dumbest thing too, is, in order to leak it, you need internet access, so, it's not like the dumb@$$ responsible for the leak couldn't have waited a few days and watched it. I swear this was just to instigate trouble.
If the episode leaks before the episode in Japan airs, the people in Japan lose money.
The people in Japan will watch the leaked episode online (that's not even attached to Funimation anymore since it's distributed by third parties) and so less of them will watch it on tv. This makes number of viewers decrease, which in turn probably loses them money.
What I don't get is why leak it in the first place? I mean it's THERE, FREE, you don't need to register, it's in better quality than a rip would be, so WTF man?
Dude, really? I mean, how absolutely friggen retarded can you get? that absolutely pisses me off. I don't blame Funi for taking the stuff down, they give us a second chance and some retard goes and does the same thing.
I'm guessing they mean Fansub groups. FUNi tends to send out C&Ds pretty fast after licensing shows. I believe there have even been reports of them going out before the show is actually licensed.
Though most organized groups are more than willing to back down from providing their services when an official release becomes available, so I wouldn't exactly say that's made them many enemies.
I do know of a couple of folks who are quick to crucify FUNi over every little thing that's just a tad bit different from their favorite fansub release. They basically say that if it's not exactly the same, FUNi has produced an inferior, badly translated project. I mostly interpret this as an excuse to keep leeching free stuff off the internet when a perfectly legitimate source is available at a reasonable charge.
Pretty soon with the leaks, just like a domino line, they're just not going to bring any over at all, then the Japanese will stop making anime because they're not making a profit, and anime will be a dead form of entertainment mildly mimicked by American market in five years.
People who do this and call themselves fans = Fail.
I'm willing to bet that the person who leaked One Piece, is the same person who leaked FMA. Now this is just getting annoying. FUNi needs to either update their security, or stop promising simulcasts.

Now this pisses me off, even if I can't avail of the service. I think that at this found, it would be better that the streaming stop and that they find a cable channel to play the episodes, just like what Animax-Asia did in Southeast Asia for FMA: Brotherhood.
What really makes this irritating is that the Japanese companies in charge didn't do anything that resulted in what happened now, and yet they're receiving the consequences as well.
I remember that this was supposed to be one way to combat piracy and fansubbing in the Internet. After what's been happening, that fight seems to be showing signs of futility, and any futile fight would have to end sooner or later. So be prepared, for I seriously think that the days of free streaming in the Funi website are numbered.
I agree, but asshats will always exist on the internet and questioning their logic is about as constructive as trying to build a skyscraper with a box of marbles. It's much easier to just take some simple safeguards against them, and FUNi is failing to understand that big time.
It's kind of like leaving your keys in the ignition of your top-down convertible in the territory of a delinquent gang. It would be wrong to take it, but you pretty much should have seen it coming at that point.
Funi's asking for it, really. They store their material on publicly accessible servers without any sort of protection. Funi knows very well that they've made enemies in the anime community with their business practices. Funi also knows that those people are knowledgeable (enough) in internet technology, and they know that these people which they have made enemies of want to see them crash and burn. Funimation has nobody to blame but themselves in this situation.
On the other hand, it's what we've always wanted - Funimation quickly providing free subs of good shows.

No, they're just being completely idiotic with their streaming service. They're leaving the episodes up on public servers hours before they're supposed to go live. This time, all they did is mess with the URLs so they're harder to guess. They didn't fix it at all. The problem still persists because they haven't figured out that you can't steal something that isn't there. If they simply waited to uploaded the episodes when they were supposed to be available, instead of a whole day early, the whole stupid mess wouldn't happen.
I like their dubs, but they're pretty much asking for this crap. I may have to rethink my support for the company if they can't figure this crap out.
FUNimation's website is full of holes,
Get it?
Because the episodes are getting leaked? AHA! AHA! AHA! AHA! AHA!
But seriously, whoever is doing this better stop because it's really starting to PZMEHOF!
What the . . . I just checked the previous news byte half an hour ago and all of a sudden everything's gone wrong?! The Titanic sank slower than this! Our economy plummted slower than this! Why?!!!

I'm not gonna go into how stupid I think that this person is or how much FUNi is annoying me.
I kinda feel bad for the people at FUNi, even if they are being lazy and not really fixing the problem.
