Also, seriously guys, tone it down. Its not the end of the world, and Viz is still distributing the uncut version. Just check the internet. You don't HAVE to watch it. No one's forcing you, and if you don't even have the station it's going to be on, then why worry?
Yeah, don't you hate it when something you like is given a chance to be exposed to other people, which will possibly garner it more fans and result in the distribution and selling of more uncut DVD sets?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THATS IT I HATE YOU DISNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*throws mickey mouse into pits of hell*
Noah Cyrus and Frankie Jonas did an exellent job in ponyo, i just thought some other voices could have been better. i saw the pirates of the carabien trilogy, but they are the only disney movies that are for kids older than 10. MY COMMENT WAS BASED ON OPINION! its perfectly okay if you dont argee with me. so just please dont be mad just because i decided to share my own humble OPINION
o_o okay... Disney is better of with cartoons and celebrity teen shows but not anime... They should know that Naruto is kinda violence kind of theme and that kids in really young age watches it, worst that i read that they dont cut scenes..? *closes my half sister's eyes who is obsess in disney shows* So that means another new dubbing (if it is) to be argue about after its release
Actually it's not a very good move. They are showing it on Disney XD which is a channel most people do not get. I can't remember if you have to pay for it seperately or get a more expensive package. It would have been a smart idea if it was on....*shudder* Disney Channel.....They smartest idea ever would be to show it on Saturday mornings on ABC. Cause everyone with TV gets that. Then we would actually watch NEW episodes on ABC rather than re-runs of the same shows over and over again.
The frist three or four episodes are already dubbed and on iTunes, and for a while you could even get the first free. I watched it and they all have the same voice actors as before-Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura all sounded like they hadn't aged at all.
...I really have nothing to say on this. I'll probably watch some to see if it's worth it...
But Viz is apparently still dubbing it so it'll probably only be things like blood and explosions that are taken out, and is a few spots of blood missing really that big of a deal? Seriously guys...
I don't know whether to laugh, cry, or shout "I TOLD YOU SO!"
(This is what happens when people start shouting "OMG THEY EDITED THE ONE SPECK OF BLOOD ON NARUTO'S CHEEK! THOSE DAMN AMERICAN *bleep* ALWAYS SCREW EVERYTHING UP!)
See? Karma sucks.
But on a more non emotional point of view, I don't think the show will be terrible, (because VIZ has the rights for the dub), so that we don't have to worry about, but if you thought it was censored before...*shakes head* (anyone know Yugioh Abrigded? It'll be like the part with the "invisble guns" only worse).
Hopefully it'll remain as unedited as Disney will allow.
Also I am firmly of the opinion that Jpop is only rated better than USpop because people can understand the words to know how stupid it is. If you listen to any Disney pop and ignore the words you'll find it catchy just the same.

If Disney wants to kiddify things, they should take on a real challenge. Like, kiddify Monster. That would be impressive. I would be too awed to be angry at that.
Why should Disney XD get to air Naruto!?!? It's not even Disney-friendly!! Walt Disney's dream of family programming has just been screwed to a completely new extreme!!!
Please describe these "Disney-friendly" and "family programming" concepts, will you? There are many things that can be considered Disney-friendly, from nineteenth-century cutthroats who pillaged and destroyed everything in their paths to what can only be described as "Technicolor on every known hallucinogen in the 60's and 70's" to a set of stories from an unrealistically happy slave to his master's nine-year-old grandson... yet they were still made into movies by the Disney Corporation! Family entertainment for the ages? You betcha!
Besides, Walt Disney himself was a racist old coot, so you can bet your noggin that if he were alive today (by some crazy force of sheer will) he would most likely hack and rip at this to make everything look even more stupidly inane than it already is... so be thankful. I, on the other hand, wish the urban legends about him being alive were true so he could do that.
there are many things wrong with this. 1: disney sux when it comes to cartoons anymore. they've just havent put anything good when it comes to animation. 2: they're gonna censore all the good stuff. it's not naruto with out blood and violence. 3: disney's taking over all of the major comic book francises first marvel, next it's viz and tokyopop. im telling u disney is evil when it comes to tv.... but there movies are still good =)
What the hell!? What the freakin hell did I just read?
Aside from the initial shock of DISNEY (wth?!) of all people picking up the show, apparently the "key demographic [is] boys 6-14." To that I say, there are going to a lot of little boys going to bed with nightmares these next couple of years. Even if CN is sucking crap, I say Shippuden best belongs on Adult Swim. Or at least put it on FUNi's channel.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Disney at all. From the comments I'm reading, I gather I'm one of the few people that don't hate Disney's guts. And I also confess that it was probably a smart move by Viz, trying to get the show out to as many people as possible. However, as a self-professed Narutard (bring on the hate, people), I really really don't like the high probability that the show is going to be butchered beyond repair. To make matters worse, I actually enjoy watching dubs (feeling the hate already). I am praying to whatever anime god out there Disney XD doesn't turn into the next 4Kids.
*sigh* Right now I'm just trying to decide what's worse:
Disney and Shippuden vs. 6-year-olds and Shippuden

I am just appalled. This is a discrace to anime!!!
Why should Disney XD get to air Naruto!?!? It's not even Disney-friendly!! Walt Disney's dream of family programming has just been screwed to a completely new extreme!!!
Disney may have the rights to the Ghibli films, but the only one I EVER saw them air was Kiki's Delivery Service. Even Cartoon Network, in like 2004 or 2005, showed like 7 Ghibli films, and they didn't own 'em!
I don't know if I can handle this. It's just to sad.
I will say this now: Disney, you better not screw up a good anime or we'll screw you worse as a whole, making you wish you were never on top!
am i the only person that thinks disney is extremely violent? i mean come on no matter what they're killing your daddy in a stampede and having your mom die in a fire.
All I'm going to say is that I am truly disappointed. Not necessarily at Disney, but really just the situation. I just can't believe it came down to CN not picking up what had to of been one of their most popular shows. Is anime really on that much of a decline? It worries me. As sad as it is, Disney has a code of ethics and a demographic it must follow, so I'm sure they have little choice in the matter. Could this turn out to be as bad as 4Kid's One Piece? I certainly don't think so....but for the sake of the anime world, I hope I'm right.
This is so wrong. I mean Disney's great and all, but this is Naruto we're talking about, Shippuden has blood, violence, and language, come on isn't that a bit much for Disney? Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this...
The reason Disney doesn't cut scenes or edit dialogue in Ghibli films is because they respect the original work. The contract you're speaking of was only made because of a much earlier dub of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind by a different company. There were so many script changes and scene mix-ups that it was essentially a completely different movie by the time they were done. Disney's dubs of the films actually go out of their way to make sure the experience is as true to the spirit of the originals as possible.
Even with that contract, though, Ghibli allows Disney to take plenty of liberties. The best example is Kiki's Delivery Service, which featured two complete English songs that were different from the Japanese version and gave Jiji a ton of extra dialogue. The songs were unavoidable because Disney couldn't get the rights to the originals before they started dubbing, but Jiji's extra lines were essentially just added for humor. Personally, I think his new lines are funny and add to the experience of watching the movie, but I can't speak for everyone.
In any case, American anime distributors don't typically go through their series or movies with a fine-toothed comb looking for things to edit or cut. Most of them realize what made the product popular in Japan and do what they can to either preserve or enhance those qualities. Bad dubbing comes when companies like 4Kids obtain a series and try to market it to a demographic that those qualities don't appeal to. The result is they typically remove or change everything that made the series great in the first place.
Also, Disney tends to go out of their way to keep to that contract. If they think something in a Ghibli movie isn't child-appropriate, they'll react accordingly. Princess Mononoke was distributed through Miramax because of the violence, and Next Thursday isn't being dubbed because of a conversation two characters have about the menstrual cycle.
That's not to say Disney has been flawless with Miyazaki's material. Personally, I hated the rock/techno remix of the song during the end credits of Ponyo. It's just that in most cases, the good outweighs the bad. I still left the theater with a smile and a feeling of two hours well spent even after that remix.

No, we're saying that Naruto—a very mainstream average anime—is going to be on the same channel as Hannah Montana (which makes me sigh), Witches of Waverly place(which makes me sigh worse than Hannah Montana) and all the (god awful) HSM movies.
Well, that and the guy in charge of the dubbing worships the ground Miyazaki-sensei walks on. lol
That being said, what is with all the Disney hate in the comments here? It's one thing to dislike some of their shows, but isn't this a little excessive? (Then again, I rather like some Disney shows. HSM was pretty good, Phineas and Ferb is hilarious, and Aaron Stone is awesome silly.)
I think CN's poor ratings were a more general situation, and the result of them deciding to air an extremely childish and mediocre lineup in the daytime and utter horse manure (aka "US toons") at night. Once you alienate the crowd that gives you ratings, there's really no going back.
At worst it'll be the same as what happened when Sailor Moon and Knights of the Zodiac (better known as Saint Seiya) were first dubbed and distributed in North America.
Aside from the fact that what Disney does is often really typcasting and shoddy, they've got a good track record so far for distributing shows that aren't their own. So we'll see.
The only reason why Disney DIDN'T butcher any Ghibli films is because they couldn't. In the contract they made with Miyazaki (like I dunno around 2000?) it said that Disney was not allowed to cut or edit anything. They could only dub it matching up to the translation as best as possible.
So....I don't think they have that deal with Naruto or VIZ even.... So....I forsee major cuts and edits. Hidan will be interesting to see....lol
~Chero~
So how much will be edited out for that boys 6-14 demographic they are shooting for? This is a show that is not aimed at children in grade school. This is just about as bad as 4Kids complete bastardization of One Piece.
All I'm asking is that they don't TOUCH the songs. The powerful Hero's Come Back and awe-inspiring Nagareboshi are too amazing to be messed with. And if you do, Disney, look out for a legal ass-whoopin'
Last edited by Hisaishi at 7:18:18 PM EDT on September 10, 2009.
disney isn't producing naruto. the same people that did the first series will be doing this one too. it's just not going to be airing on cartoon network which anybody only ever watches for family guy and robot chicken anyway.
but sweet jesus disney you really want guy viewers for disney XD don't you. kind of kicking ass and taking names. and franchises.
I just texted my friends, and they are gonna flip out! In the OMGLOLWAT kind of way. I'm more open-minded about these sort of things, so I'll give it a shot. Pffft...Hopefully they'll start adding more anime to the Japan pavillion on World Showcase; or even let cosplayers come!!! 8D Kakashi with mouse ears? Pffft...
Meh, I stopped reading/watching Naruto a year ago, so this really doesn't affect me much. It's funny as hell, but other than that...meh. They can butcher it all they want; it's already doing a good job of butchering itself.

Well Disney is just taking over the world now, isn't it? Let's all bow down to Big Brother Disney! They now have control of many a soul...lol.
But seriously, this is interesting...I wonder if Disney is trying to change their image or something? But they made Digimon crap if I remember right [that was a long time ago lol] so I don't have high hopes for it being on there.
I will never look at Disney the same. I'm not sure I got it...Disney, did you say? I think I might cough up my lunch. Cheap Hannah Montana reruns next to Naruto. I have barely watched many episodes of Naruto, but I will never look at it the same if it transforms into a Disney-4Kids spoof fan-made crap.
....this...is interesting. Very interesting indeed.
Edit: Actually, let them censor it. Seeing as how Viz has already begun to distribute the uncut version, this'll only serve to provide lulz.
Also, to those saying CN should have aired it, that would never happen. CN canceled Naruto because of poor ratings(no thanks to the huge unnecessary filler hell). No way would they try to bring a flop back.

While concerning Disney's storytelling reputation, I hope Disney XD doen't end up like 4Kids TV in terms of the way it broadcasts Anime.
By the way, Cartoon Network should've been the one to pick up this "Naruto" since it now airs a number of Anime uncut and uncensored. I mean, if Disney XD doesn't air this show uncut, then it looks like we'll have to wait until North American DVD release to see it uncut, like we did with the first "Naruto" T.V. series' episodes.
I laugh at this from the bottom of my heart. In fact, it almost makes up for the Marvel thing since I am laughing so hard. XDDDDDD
It is my personal opinion that there needs to be some reworking over at Cartoon Network before the station becomes closer to what it once was and this right here can kind of be like the first step. I noticed how things on Cartoon Network and the broadcast block Toonami really began taking the downward spiral once Naruto began airing. Now Toonami is dead and there are few things worth watching on the station. I think keeping Shippuden off Cartoon Network's waves will be a good thing in the end.
Besides, Disney XD, when it was Toon Disney, aired all sorts of cartoon shows like The Amazing Spider Man and X-Men way before there was even word of the channel's name change (let alone Disney outright buying Marvel's distribution rights). Granted one often was required to sit up until ungodly hours at night, but they still aired. Disney also has North American rights to Studio Ghibli films and you don't see those being butchered. Then again, if they keep the people who dub Ghibli's stuff away and let some other company hack away at Shippuden, they might actually change the series so much that it will become--gasp!--decent. XDDD

Oh um...???? O.O That's sooo weird...Disney did wondeful with the Miyazaki films.... Isn't VIZ still dubbing it? Or am I mistaken?
Of course they put it on the ONE channel I don't get. *sigh* I guess I'll just have to buy the DVD's...
O.O That must be their evil plan. lol buy the DVD's or buy more channels.
~Chero~
Voices should remain unchanged, since Viz would still be producing the dub as far as I can tell. There may be some censorship issues, though, such as blood being edited out and possibly some cut explosions.
Dwahhh!!!! Ughhh it's CN's fault for getting low budget Ideas on cartoon shows. But why Disney tho????
-sighs- I PRAY Disney does a good job [I love the classic movies]
And will there be the original American voice actors? [in more mature voices?]
I can't wait! I have faith Disney!!
Truthfully, I'm not surprised by this move. Seriously, with the direction Cartoon Network has been taking with its animated venues lately (or total crap thereof -_- ), it's only natural that the folks at Viz would seek a place to best show off their product. Even more unsurprising is that Disney XD is specifically the branch of the corporation that's interested in broadcasting it.
Then again, I wonder why Universal Studios didn't pick it up?
I hate the Disney Channel. HSM, Hanna Montana *throws up* and now they're putting Naruto on there? Don't get me wrong, I like Naruto, but mixing it in with that crap is just downright wrong ;_; What a degrading feeling it is for an anime...tsk tsk. Now if I want to see it I now have to wander onto that channel *shutters*
Actually, if they're running it on Disney XD, there's likely going to be a greater amount of executive meddling than there was on CN, where it was more or less airing uncut. If you want a good example, just take a look at Digimon Savers. Some episodes of that are downright embarrassing to watch, though the voice track is decent.
Then again, people were BAAAAAWing every time CN cut a curse word that was never in the original to begin with, so some people just can't be pleased.
If anything, this move will make the show bearable to watch, since all the unintentionally hilarious censorship I'm foreseeing can only improve all the Uchiha wangst.

It's just Naruto.

@MewChero:

The only reason why Disney DIDN'T butcher any Ghibli films is because they couldn't. In the contract they made with Miyazaki (like I dunno around 2000?) it said that Disney was not allowed to cut or edit anything. They could only dub it matching up to the translation as best as possible.

XDDD
