ahaha, trust me it's kinda fun if u concentrate on the movie like that ^^b
I know rite?? xD they're kinda surprising but fun to find.... hmmm I forgot from where but once I saw an object in a movie/TV series one minute say it was red in color the next they change it into yellow/orange... hha guess they don't hav a back up object in the same color :p
I'm really bad about thinking about anything but plot-line and character development. Maybe after our talk I'll be able to look at movies in a different light ^^b
haha! That's funny that you found a detail like that! I know it's the small details that can really come back to bite you when you least expect it x)
Hehe :D your welcome :) I myself is still new at this stuff too ahaha. Yea it's really amazing how much detailed hard work they put into every scene, every second. LOL >_< I really hope I'll join the "gang" in the future 8D ahhaa they're AWSOME not mee~
Yea I know rite?? hha, it might be weird but I hav this habit that whenever I see a movie, I'd at least see it twice (unless it's horrible) 1st = I pay attention to the story n characters, how they developed through it, then the 2nd = I try to pay attention throughout the screen to see all the details they put into everything, it's kinda fun.... n films like Transformers, when u looked it closely there r some weird scenes, like 1 second u see a guy at the back standing, then the next second he's lying down on the ground or like falling down... it's so clear that they cut it off n didn't really pay attention to every detail... of course normal audience wouldn't see every detail xD
Yea there's a lot of big companies out there in the industry :D but if it's about FX the king would be ILM, hands down ;)
hha no big :D I actually enjoy explaining them, kinda grows my passion too ahaha. Your welcome~~ :D
Wow! Just . . . wow Thanks for the explanation! And the short movie clips helped show just how much work they put into it. I just loved the way they put the water in layers of splash here and top right there and etc. You guys are totally awesome Your future self at work though I'm sure you're awesome now xD
I guess I 'knew' that was all done by animators but I never really stopped and thought about how much work they really had to do 0.0 It's just gorgeously amazing XD ^^b
And it was cool learning about those different companies and what they worked on. I didn't realize there were companies like that.
Sorry, I feel like this post is really short in comparison to all the work you had to put into yours ^^"""" Sorry! But I appreciate it!!!
I almost forgot that Disney actually bought Lucas Film. but the company retains their name :) n still operates normally (kinda like Pixar)
well, in conclusion each part of these animators work all their sweats n tears for this. each r wonderful in their own way :D
although what I don't like is that Disney completely shuts down their 2D animation for movies n such, even tho mostly for me at least the classics r the most beautiful: all the Disney Princesses, Bambi, Fox and the Hound (these two brought me to tears)...
ah about the FX thing, since it's hard to explain by words, watching videos by ILM's youtube account would show it better : http://www.youtube.com/user/ILMVisualFX

YAY~~! lol thank you thank you, *although I'm currently still studying n haven't gone to work* :p
hmm I'm pretty sure you've seen Transformers right? Star Trek, Battleship, Avengers, Iron Man, The Hobbit, Titanic etc etc.
Transformers: most of the city portion in the movie are all animated, constructed building by building. The robots of course there's no questions there. the FX team would be the one responsible for all the textures, lighting (touch up part), reflections (e.g: Optimus Prime has a pair of front windows on his chest, each movement those windows will reflect anything that is shown in the environment, well of course this goes for all the robots), explosions, all the tiny-tiny detail of each robot. the animators themselves said that most ppl would think that if the movie was shot at night time, we can "hide" the details under the shadows, so they can be "blur" and still acceptable cuz of the BG, but u saw transformers, it's all daylight.. each robots r designed from cover to core, no blur can be found. Oh n remember the "slanted building" in the last installment? that's animation n FX for you.
Star Trek: hha.... um that whole space thing, the buildings on earth, those spaceship... yea, like +90% animation n FX
Battleship: the whole water splashing, each drop is FX's work, like for every 5 seconds shot for the alien ship to submerge or surface fron the sea each can take months to do. even the wave caused from the destroyer ships r all FX (yes the ships r overall animated, like magic :D)
I can't explain everything, but um for what I know, at least the division of specialty for universities r:
- 3D modeler -> the ones who form the 3D objects, yes from characters, ships, monsters, cities, to wheelbarrows and trashcans. They build the muscles n joints for the characters, they build the forms of every object all following the designs given from the concept designer
- 3D animator -> the ones that does the animation, frame by frame, each millisecond. They control every movement in a scene, every muscle (thus includes facial expressions), following the storyboard
- 2D animator -> well 2D is like Beauty and the Beast, Bambi, Fox and Hound. basically they draw EACH FRAME in by hand (yea, exactly as u would imagine) see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOVlVF3RJQc and you'll understand what I meant :)
- Special Effects -> the bringer of life to every film, they put in all the lights, reflections, explosions, crashes, dirt, splashes, waves, storms, fire, snow, scenes (u see like a series of mountains or things like that for movie intros? yep those r mostly just a series of pictures lined together creating depth, render them up n it's believable. this stuff works on cities to)
of course we can also work as the concept designer too, but that's a different position
think for this era, one of the GIANTS for FX is Lucas Film's ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) well.... for starters the first 4 movies I mentioned(including their prequels and sequels) r all under this company, they also make Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Back to the Future, Terminator, Jumaji, Titanic, Harry Potter series, Chronicles of Narnia series, Pirates of the Caribbean series, Avatar,...(this will never end, so I'll stop here). Although for 1 major film, more than 1 company would work together, like Transformers (the latest) other than ILM, Dreamworks is also in there. or the Avengers, again other than ILM, WETA Digital is there too.
WETA DIGITAL is also a known company in this industry (they made The Lord of the Rings (all 3), The Hobbit (from 1st till last-> in production), the Avengers, X-Men, King Kong, Iron Man 3, etc
Films like Pirates of the Caribbean, Chronicles of Narnia, they're owned by Disney but the magic is all ILM
Harry Potter by Warner Bros again FX is all ILM
ILM is only a single division under Lucas Film, they work solely for FX, they also hav their own animation division.
but of course for animation the King would be Disney, Pixar, (no need to put in examples there~) then there's DreamWorks (Shrek, Rise of the Guardians, they work for Transformers as well, Paranormal Activity-> nothing special to do for animators/FX team in this one), 20th Century Fox (Anastasia, Ice Age, Rio, Epic), WETA Digital is also up there cuz of Tin Tin :) but yeah they're PRO in FX too (considering the titles I put up there)
YES, I do watch a LOT of films :D hha, well considering I'm gonna be working in the industry *hopes up*
And that's why people will pay you the big bucks to make cool stuff for us!
But yeah, it takes a lot of work to make all of those creatures. You get applause from me.
So what all does special effects entail? Is it like making ships blow up in space? Or water splashing up from an imaginary fountain? I guess I'm asking what's the organization among special effects. Are there different departments and types? Or does it depend on the job? Just curious.
*sincerely hopes not a monster* Though I know better than to think I"m above becoming one. Our hearts are very deceptive.
hmm yeah if you put it that way, that is true :). of course all fantasy creatures basics are all from real animals/plants/any other element. And it can only looked realistic once the artist(s) grasp basic knowledge of the original bone, muscle... well basically real structure and learn their movements too. IT'S SOO COOL xD that's also why I'm taking animation 8 D.... although later I think I wanna go towards special effects, cuz usually it's the "magic" that makes everything falls into place n looks real + great xD *suddenly excited*...
hmm yeah that it SO true :D !! hha but I'm pretty sure I'm not a monster inside or out......
or....
am I................? O_______O
*feeling the suspense*
Well, maybe like is a strong word. I find zombies and the whole system of classification and theories behind them interesting. And I like the different creations of animals that animators and artists put into their different worlds. Just being able to create a different creature using bone and muscle and having it come out as something that's 'realistic' enough for the observer to voluntarily suspend their belief in. I just think that's really cool ^^
ha, this is true. Though you can be a monster and not look it outwardly.
No problem at all. I had to go to work so it's not like I would have gotten it anyway ;)
Monsters are the best!! I mean, characters are great too but the monsters truly get all the wows. The protagonist isn't much if he doesn't go up against a great villain :3
*hops on the bandwagon of teacher admiration*
Er, I've never played/watched/read any of the Resident Evil stuff. I don't like horror. I get freaked out too easily ^^'
fuuh~ I really really REALLY HOPE SOO!!~~ :D
yea that's true :), n the lecturers all hav different specialties, like this one is robot, n there r others who really likes drawing monsters, backgrounds, and characters of course ;).
no noo~ it's not weird at all, we students r all fans of his work too :D
yea :'(, I think to start off, I'd just copy off somethings else (since truly I'm blind in this area)=kinda=. yeaa!!
aww thank you~~!! :D <3
LOL, hmm if only Resident Evil series still sticks with zombies I might draw some (since I'm an RE fan lol) but they changed from T virus to G virus to C virus....
*I have a feeling they're gonna use every alphabet there is for future viruses*
Oh yeah. Oops ^^"" Anyone at all is more than welcome to join in on this conversation! XD -^^-

Oh, that makes sense. If you draw a robot flat, especially with all the angles and protrusions it would look really funny. You could tell him I really like his art! Unless he would think that's weird
Hmm, that's hard to draw out of your preferences, but I'm sure it helps you out artistically in the end. Even if it's just to know what you want to avoid in your art.

haaha no not that, just that seems our conversation is off from the original fan art comment page xD (we're not commenting bout the art lol)
ikr?? =_= all my lecturers r CRAZY like that. n plus they're all still PRETTY YOUNG!! I need to beat myself up till I get to that lvl >_<. yea him in particular LOVES robots, and that's one of the reasons he's a perspective lecturer. (since when u draw robots without good perspective idea, it'll just be flat)
yea well he's just asking us to sketch some robot stuff nothing super fancy like his. yea :) I'm more of a character person rather than robots or background person. on top of that I'm too manga-ish =_=, I can copy other style tho :) NOO I'm not a zombie drawer~!! D:
You mean looking at two conversations at the same time is too confusing?
Whooooooooooa that was really amazing. And some of the designs are so intricate they really do look like they could work in real life. But then again he's the instructor so he's supposed to be amazing. He can't expect you at least I don't to be able to draw like that right off the bat. Plus different people have different styles. He obviously is good at details and mechanically minded things.
