I prefer more simplistic wallpapers as well...when you start getting too much flashy stuff going on it starts to get distracting. Hence why I like this wallpaper. To me, it makes what's important stand out which is just the guys face and eyes. The maroon-ish red text works well with the overall blue tone since it gives it a little more color without it getting obnoxious.
Aw, yeah, that is pretty old. :/ But I've heard of it. I'm sure there's SOME place that has tutorials for it or something. What's the new Elements version? I don't even know. I do know that it's hard to be stranded with an older version though! I don't have the disc for my photoshop anymore, so if anything happens to my computer...it'll be gone forever! It sucks that these programs cost so much. How can people have the fancy new CS versions anyway??
If you wanted to try another program for free, GIMP is a good one. You can just download it for free online. Only if you want to try something different though. I've seen people on AP make vectors and cool wallpapers using that program; I don't know how though! That's neat you're interested in vectoring! It's rather hard to do. I don't do it often. I wish you luck in that venture! Hopefully you can try your hand at it somehow. :3 Just do what you can. As long as you like what you're doing, then that's all that matters! ^_^
what program do you use? I have photoshop 7.0. It's not new either. :/ I envy those that have the fancy new ones...but you can still make good things with older ones!! *nods*
>_> I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 So obsolete that they don't even sell it anymore. I gave up on tutorials since I really don't have the tools people kept saying to use to get certain effects.
What I did to was go and purchase the manual to the book so I could do more. All you have to do is look at my earlier stuff which is pretty pathetic really since I had no idea what I was doing.
Oh, and sorry again about what I said before about the bg. I'm kind of a hypocrite in that area because I used to do the same thing...and I was told often by people to make the bg from scratch and all. So yeah.
Believe me, I understand. I even checked out tutorials for extraction, only to find out that I didn't have the tools they were telling you to use to do that. -_-' Extraction is a royal pain in the butt when you actually want to do that.
In this case though... I liked the subtle pattern that was already there so the only thing I wanted to get rid of was the text. Fortunately that was easier to do than actual extraction. Heh.
Thanks for understanding. :3 I'd love to see more wallpapers from Gankutsuou!
When I get tired of this one I'll probably think about making another one. Though I really want to get a better program first, I'm really curious to find learn how to vector among other things. ^_~
Oh good. ^^; I'm sorry again though. I understand what you're doing. I think it's the best thing to make wallpapers for yourself and what you want to do...I'm one of those people though that always look to others' opinions instead of my own...but anyhoo, what program do you use? I have photoshop 7.0. It's not new either. :/ I envy those that have the fancy new ones...but you can still make good things with older ones!! *nods* Oh, and sorry again about what I said before about the bg. That's fine! As long as you like it. ^_^ I'm used to major wallpaper critiques from people at AP, so it's just rubbed off on me to be like that. Sorry if I offended you. I still like what you did!
I'm glad you enjoy it now, too!! as for your wallpaper, it's nice, but it kind of seems like you didn't do TOO much.
:p That was the point, I wanted simple and yet have the count stand out.
I found the scan and yes, you did well with getting rid of the text on the side, but I think it would've been better if you extracted the Count from the scan and created your own bg! That's just me though.
I did build a background. :p I took the pattern that was under the text and extended it over. Nice and simple was what I was looking for. And yes, it's just you. Extracting the Count would have lost the background that I wanted.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the input just the same. But to be honest, I made this to appeal to myself and decided to upload the finished deal when I was done since it turned out better than I expected for a simple wallpaper.
Ahhh~, the Count. How I love him. It's such a great anime...the art style and everything is unique! I'm glad you enjoy it now, too!! as for your wallpaper, it's nice, but it kind of seems like you didn't do TOO much. Sabrina is right, that's fantastic. Considering who it is, the darker colors and and sharp contrast from the blue in his hair is perfect. The textures you chose go really good too.
Wow... that's beautiful. I don't even know how to put it in words. The colors, texture and overall effect is great. Plus I like how the widescreen version has nothing distracting on the left side. Makes it perfect for icons and such. ^_^
