Personally, I agree with you I thought that this scene was very passionate.
I can't imagine someone saying that it was irrelevant!
This story arc really developed Goku's character and allowed him to not just be the comic relief.
Anyways I thought this part in the manga was fantastic!
i remember this "kiss scene" in the manga
for me, this was passionate, considering the events during that saga
though i also remember that this "kiss scene" became a controversy way back in 2007 wherein minekura (creator) received a fan letter from an italian (unsure)fan girl complaining that the "kiss scene" was irrelevant and should have been removed
