The only difference between this and the original image is that this looks black and white. You just desaturated the image... Try adding some new things to your next wallpaper, dynamic lighting, details, maybe new characters, make it look like you put a little effort into it.
Trust me, this is far from being plain! I actually think it's really cool. Like, the setting and everything seems so eerie. It reminds me of a book for some strange reason. I guess it's the whole theme and everything. really sets the mood for me
