I think you did an amazing job on this and I can tell from working on this wallpaper that it took you along time. Wow!! This is amazing!!!!! ^_^ The whole wallpaper is so pretty, and it's really, really creative! I love what you did with the lettering (that must have been hard!!!) And all the lighting and the composition is really good! ^_^
Very pretty! I love how you made it look like a sunset theme, it looks very warm, comforting and kind of nostalgic too. And I don't have any problem with your text placement; actually, I think it's quite creative when wallers blend sigs/titles in their walls

Well I'm not sure if GIMP has this, but what I mainly do to make my wallpapers brighter and shinier is by duplicating the image and then going to Filter > Noise > median. I normally set the settings at 2. Then you set the layer blending mode to "Overlay" or "soft light". That's all really, but again I'm not sure if that's the same steps you would do in GIMP ^^; I hope is something close to it ^^.
