Nice metaphor, but not technically true. To me, ODST was more about caution than stealth.
Assess the enemy. Is there an alternate route?
No. What weapons do I have at my disposal? Magnum? Rocket launcher? Sniper rifle?
Sniper rifle. Find cover. Assess the enemy again. Who's the biggest threat? Hunter.
Move. Do I have a shot? No. Wait.
Do I have the shot? No. Wait.
... Do I have the shot?
Yes.
Take it down.
