Oh, good! I also use GIMP, so i know how it works ^___^ you are welcome for the pointers, dear! it is always good to ask for advice, because sometimes that is faster than guessing on your own LOL. if you are using gimp, a great idea is to use Layers! the background is always the base, but if you make a separate layer for each piece you want (sparkles, or swirls, or whatever) then you can mess around without deleting all of the other stuff!
OH and for good, free brushes and texts for gimp:
deviantart.com - search for "gimp brushes" (http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&q=gimp+brushes)
dafont.com - has great fonts!! (http://www.dafont.com/)
those are the sites where i got all of my brushes and fonts that i use ^___^ they are very pretty! go to google and look up how to download them properly so that they will work, and you will have many options for making great wallies and cards :D
thanks a lot for the pointers they were a lot of help (i have no experience) but I've seen these settings before on the program i use (the gimp) so ill try them out and if i need any help I'll let you know thanks again
Aww, you've dedicated your very first wallie to me? thank you very much! that's an honor :D You had a good idea, putting the girl on a pretty background. Now you just have to work with shading and contrast. There are some options like "brightness" and "contrast" which let you darken or lighten the image so that you get the balance you want. And most programs should let you manipulate the colors and shading, which can help you blend the person into the background so they look like they really go together ^___^ It takes a lot of practice to figure out the best way to make a background, but you are definitely doing well so far! let me know if you have any questions, mkay? i've learned some new tricks lately that i think help out a lot ^__^
For first wallie, it's fine and really "bright". Keep it up
If you ask my opinion you could turn the girl left a bit because now she looks like somebody is pulling her.
And it's too much bright. Only my opinion but nobody wants to use that bright wallpaper because it will hurt their eyes. I think you can change the theme of wallper as "dark". It's really easier and will look more beautiful because the bg that you used is really good for it. Lastly, you can write something with an interesting font. It wont look that empty that time.
Don't take it wrong, you are good for a beginner, my sentences were only advices.
