I'm making this post to test it out! Maybe you'll see it too when you make a world post.
...Maybe that's an understatement!
We had a nasty virus infect our server. It came from Russia. Things are okay for the moment but we'll have to move all the sites to a new machine, with much stricter security.
I'll wait until the server move before I post more details. Some data on OB might have been lost, I hope it's not too bad.
I'm a little bummed because we had such good momentum the last few weeks and all the lockdown/security measures set us back again. Ah well.
On the plus side, I ordered this beautiful art print for the room:
This is not a drill. Keep your emails coming ASAP if you notice anything at all suspicious. We've locked down much of the site. OB is offline. Again, this is not a drill. Explanations will come later.
First it was anonymous spam bots.
Then it was Nigerian scammers.
Now it's viruses. A virus silently infected theOtaku for a few hours last night. It would have lasted longer if I hadn't gotten an email about it
If your virus blocker *ever* pops up while you're browsing theO, email me directly ASAP, preferably with a screen shot.
We're taking steps to secure the site but it's going to be a tough process.
For one, registration now has *3* separate security measures and we're thinking about re-adding email address verification.
On a lighter note...
BEST. CAPTCHA. EVER.
