Every time we get these drama fests, I want to start banging people's heads together. Seriously, I do. It took all of five minutes to deal with the original theft and yet I've now spent close to two hours dealing with all of the crap caused by the drama.
That kind of thing is why I wrote my fan word on reporting stuff that is stolen. It's always better to respond to things in a calm manner. ^_^ That way you can avoid unnecessary drama like you explained in your post.
Honestly, I don't see how worse can it get when you have people threatening the live of another, THAT by itself is the worst you can wish/do/say to someone but somehow I feel it could have been way worse if that member didn't submitted the drawing with the link and you guys didn't step in, truly.
Nice metaphor. Or...whatever it's called when you create a story to set an example or represent something else. Lol. Cause I totally understand! It's not right. As horrible as plagiarism is, it isn't going to help if a ton of people start badmouthing them like that. I would've chosen #1 anyway. Or not do anything and hope the teacher finds out on their own. ^^; But yeah, totally agreed...
Being a mod must be so hard.
Let's hope things get settled and people learn from their mistakes, without a ravenous mob of "do-gooders."
That was a good speech there, Bossman.
After the recent drama with you-know-who, I noticed how...crazy things can turn on the site, with the death threats and mobs and such
I was quite a bit annoyed with you-know-who, but luckily I've kept the outbursts as small as possible, and it's over(thanks goodness)
(And feel free to ignore this bit, just being slightly random comparing your story to the recent drama here)
It seems we shouldnt've gone crazy, since now you and the other staff members have to clean up the entire mess
And you-know-who was driven out with people flaming her, along with harassing her(and, comparing your analog with this), assuring she won't even have a date to "OtakuProm"(whenever you decide to make it official)
I agree. That's why you have rules and people to take care of problems. I think they were way too mean to that person who posted the pictures. >_< And like you said, then you guys have to fix all the problems caused by harassing the member who stole.
That is so true. Too many people don't think of how their actions will affect others; like the teacher in your analogy. Truthfully, I don't think the second option would be right even if it only affected the cheater.
Wow, but that was a very powerful speech you gave, Mr. Adam. I nearly cried reading it. Hopefully many others will see this and take it to heart. Especially since you've made it so easy to deal with plagiarism the correct and civil way.
Oh gosh, so true. Every time I see people getting up in arms over art theft I just want to bang my head on my desk. It's just so freaking DUMB. You guys always take care of it so getting everyone worked up is really immature.
Plus, its not the end of the world. They still have their art, just imagine how bad they'd feel if the original was stolen. At least online it's not like having someone literally come into your home and take it.
Also anyone who knows them will realize that the other person isn't the original artist. So getting worked up only makes them look stupid.
I'm just glad that you guys smack people upside the head and end drama like that when it starts to get out of hand. Seriously.

People do this on LJ, too, in regards to fanfic plagiarism. In those situations, most people just don't have the guts to confront the plagiarizer one-on-one and decide to make it public instead (which usually just blows things out of proportion, esp. in cases where the accuser is somehow mistaken).
But when there are clear "authority figures" that people can report to, such as on this site, I really don't understand why they wouldn't just tell you guys, instead of ganging up on the person...
Oh I know it's been happening all along. I've been around long enough to remember previous incidents and not just the recent fiasco. People may think they're just expressing their feelings or frustration over being stolen from, but they're forgetting that it can end up creating a lot of unnecessary work for the staff who has to 'calm down' the disaster.
It's really sad because for you guys, as in the staff, dealing with the aftermath is more problematic than dealing with the original theft was.

Well I'm sure it will happen again later on. But I do hope that the people learned their lesson, on both sides.

Mmm.
I can't believe some people got this so far out of hand! Internet mobs... Sheesh.
I think people have learned from this, so hopefully it won't happen again *nod-nod*

It is a terrible feeling, to have art stolen, but not something that needs to become a crazy ordeal of revenge. Thanks for the speech.
