ugh, i need this adam. where can i get it. if it improves attention spans then most of the world needs it. to many things promote multitasking. we get used to multitasking and then we can't stop. i suffer from short attention spans, i haven't read a book in ages... i can't focus on it. i'm failing english because of this. help me!
I'm a book freak, but I am a book freak who plans to own a Kindle! I adore books in so many ways, I collect them and treasure them and touch them and smell them..but let's be honest - despite the awesomeness of bound set of paper, it is not always practical. I can keep a Kindle in my purse and I can read in line at the grocery store, the waiting room, my lunch break, etc. Some of the novels I want to read are very large, that is rarely practical. I expect to continue to purchase physical books (like how I still purchase CDs if I love the song downloads enough) but Kindle will no doubt expand my collection of novels.
If there's nothing wrong with me, then there must be something wrong with the universe!

I don't think I ever want something like a Kindle. I love carrying a real book around with me, it just feels more natural. And I think I'd have less eye strain staring at a paper page than a screen.
Yup, books have distinct pages and table of contents. You click a 'next' and 'previous' button to navigate between them. There's even a little progress bar at the bottom
-- Often it takes a long time and a lot of stamina to create really great projects
-- People with longer attention spans are more productive
-- ???
-- PROFIT!!!
Also I inspired this purchase? That is actually kind of cool.
Only thing I want to know about the Kindle is if it has a page-turning system instead of a long continuous scroll feature like most electronic media stuff. I find that it is easier to read longer things when you have the mental break from a page turn, or just looking across to the page on the right.
The Kindle is kind of scary to me, if only because I absolutely love books - the way they feel, the way they smell...even the sound of the pages turning, haha.
Having said that, I am a strong supporter of deeper online experiences. One of the reasons OB has gone quieter in recent times is, I think, because we aren't offering the quick satisfaction of a comment or a status update. Tasks that demand more time are becoming less popular.
It's a trend I hope changes - not because of OB specifically, but because a society with no attention span seems pretty awful to me.

Kindle uses e-ink, which isn't backlit at all and looks exactly like normal ink so there's no eye strain
Also, the way it handles page turning is quite good and gives a similar feel
Also, every classic book on it is free with instant access and no wait
Also, you can read faster b/c of the screen size/standardization

@Adam:
Excellent, I like it already.
If you think about it, we've almost caught up with Star Trek's datapads. =P

I would add more points about why long attention spans are good, but I had to follow Miss A.
I'd rather see in shades of gray.

Sorry, I got distracted when you mentioned Facebook; had to go check on all my friend's statuses.
