ya rly. I was so very tempted to whip out the old lern2reed shtick in the comments on the Official theO World but I've been good and restrained myself from trolling.
o_O Sounds like you deal with a lot of interesting feedback. It's hard to make everyone happy, but when only so many can be chosen, that's just not possible.
If cutting down on that kind of bickering could be done by closing comments for that type of announcement, it just might be the best way to go.
No, the language used in that sentence is very clear and leaves no room for ambiguity. It's especially obvious that "finalists" refers to "entries" and not people when you look at the entire sentence:
"Once all the entries are in, theOtaku.com and the New York Anime Festival will be selecting ten finalists that will be put on display at the New York Anime Festival booth at AnimeNEXT (June 20-22 in Secauscus, NJ)."
The sentence breaks down like this: "Once all the entries are in..." is a condition that must be met before anything else can happen. When met, theO and the NYAF, "...will be selecting ten finalists..." So, when given entries they select finalists—these two things are linked by the condition. On the other hand, artists are not mentioned at all so there is no reason to believe they are involved in the process. Next, those finalists, "...will be put on display at the New York Anime Festival booth at AnimeNEXT..." So, when given finalists they put them on display. This makes sense in the context of finalists being entries but falls apart if you assume the finalists are artists. It would make no sense to display the artists instead of the entries.
That would be pretty funny if they knew who you were. Hehe. ^_~
Oh Adam... there are always silly people out there. Sad but silly just the same. I still laugh over the inaccurate assumptions and complaints from all the previous contests.
It seems to be easier to whine than to be grown up enough to congratulate the contestants who worked hard on their entries. I wouldn't blame you one bit if you closed comments on posts with the update as to selected finalists.
It's not that hard for people to leave congratulation comments on people's worlds or the artwork itself and you certainly don't need to deal with people getting worked up over nothing. ^_~
Yes you are correct however, when someone reads that it only refers which could mean a number of things. It can mean what you said and it can mean something else. We can only assume, which is terrible, when you think about it. Nevertheless when I read that I thought of ten finalist which to me is 10 people...not ten different arts though there could be doubles...because the 10 pieces of art was a given.
Quoted from the rules, emphasis mine: "Once all the entries are in, theOtaku.com and the New York Anime Festival will be selecting ten finalists..."
The rules never said ten people would be selected as finalists, it said ten entries would be. That entire paragraph refers to the art itself; the artists are never even mentioned.
You are correct on that point!!! I agree but speaking on behalf of those other otakuites they do bring up good points and it is understandable. The contest was one sided. I don't care about previous contests because they don't concern me, what bothers me about this one is that I had asked Adam myself if it was okay to you colored pencils as a media and would that be held against me? He replied no go for it they won't be. Now I am not quoting him word for word because I can't remember his exact words but when you see a one sided contest like that it makes you wonder...when someone says that to you, one would think that traditional art would make it, now I am not saying that I deserved it, all I am saying is that I would have been much happier with a mix for the contest because some of the 10 ten winners I think were beaten by tradtional art hands down....
Alright Elves does do both which is wonderful, and yes, the other otakuites should have did some research in that I can agree with that. Never the less, the rules stated a few things: 1 being that there would be 10 winners which there was only 9 because they picked 2 of the same person so really that rule is broken. The others Adam sorta already clearified it but I still am not please with it but whatever.
Lastly, I agree that people do get a headache with it but people do call them silly and such but heck I give them credit for doing that because it really takes alot of courge to speak you mind out and don't care what others think of you. It takes alot to do so.

Anyways, I overheard a man and his wife talking. It went like this:
Man: REF! CALL IT BOTH WAYS! THAT WAS A CORNER KICK, THE GOALKEEPER TOUCHED IT LAST!
Wife: Honey, be quiet. The ball went to our daugter's team.
