Oh! You should donate to the Heifer Project! (http://www.heifer.org) It's an international organization that donates livestock (and other things) to struggling families around the world. In return, these families are asked to give 1 offspring from their animals to another family in need.
You can donate 'part' of an animal (in other words a general donation) or you could donate $20 and buy a flock of chickens.

Check out To Write Love on Her Arms. It's an organization dedicated to helping people who struggle with depression, suicidal thoughts, self injury/mutilation, or addictions.
KIVA is an amazing organization. It doesn't research cures to diseases or anything, but you can help a less fortunate person in another country get started on building their own business/get back on their feet after hardship has fallen upon them. And $25 can be just enough to help someone buy a cow or cultivation supplies or any number of things! My art class just donated $535 to multiple people on there, and it feels so great to see who you're giving to and to be able to completely fill a person's request for money.
Long explanation, but you should check out the site, bossman.
Any charity that proactively helps kids… (Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Club etc.) The United Way has cut funding from these groups, and now seems to focus on helping kids only after they have gotten in trouble.
1: There's a little girl (13, i think) with Cystic Fibrosis. She'll die if she doesn't get new lungs. Her name is Claire Wineland. She's so full of life, and has so much to give the world. And she's dying. http://www.clairewineland.com/ Her youtube channel
2: CF researchers get no help from the government because the disease is very rare, however there is no cure for CF. The life expectancy of someone with it is 37 years old. Many die before then. My second suggestion is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. http://www.cff.org/ A heartwrenching video about CF
Anyway, I'm sorry your flight went so poorly, and I'm glad you didn't have to spend it in the bathroom. Ick. Let us know where you choose to donate!
I would suggest the Red Cross (for relief operations) or World Vision (to sponsor a child's education). You might also consider the Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network (RAINN).
I would also recommend any charity that provides support to those in need in Afghanistan (particularly women and children). One charity to look at is afghanaid.org.uk
