A browser window being a popup like myOtaku? That would indeed fix it but that doesn't seem to be a favorable option here. The clipping issue could also possibly fixed with some CSS but I'd need to take a closer look than I have thus far.
You're right about a threaded list below the post too. While that works well for single page posts, it would indeed be unwieldy for multi-page posts.
The current system also fails in that regard though, as it does with referencing a comment you're replying to (an issue I'm having right now actually). It's for this reason that I still think, unfortunately, a threaded popup window works the best.
That said, if people really want to make this system work, I can take a further look into the code and see if I can come up with a recommendation for some CSS modifications to fix the clipping.
Do you think that clipping issue would be solved via browser window instead of pop-over?
Between the two sites, I much prefer this box. It's much sleeker, and makes reading the comments nine times less of an eyesore—barring the Neon Yellow font that people STILL SEEM TO USE.
The only bad part is that it effectively ruins any attempt at reading the post once you start commenting, which makes it slightly unwieldy for referencing.
But with that in mind, there is also the option of a thread-style comment field below the post itself. Admittedly, this option wouldn't work well with the multi-post listing that we currently have, which would mean you'd have to access the single post via title link in order to see the comment field at all. So I'm not sure if it's a workable option, let alone better. But it's still an option to consider, perhaps?
See, I use my iPhone a lot, like an unhealthy amount of usage. So 1/2 the time I'm on theOtaku I'm browsing from my iPhone. Now, the comment system isn't too awesome when using it on my iPhone, I can only read about the two latest comments. But I'd rather deal with that then having a new window pop open on my phone. Why? Because I am a chronic tab user and the iPhone only allows 8 tabs. I'm always running the risk of accidentally getting rid a page/tab due to something else popping up.
So for the love of god keep the newer system. So I can continue my bad habits.
I like the look of the commebt box now, if that makes any sense at all? XD It just seems... sleeker. But as I was not a member of myO, I suppose my opinion can't really be trusted in this case. Anyhow, I'm fine with how they are now, but any changes are certainly for the better~
I really have no problems with the TheO version, I tend to close pop-up windows anyway. And we can have multiple boxes open, one per tab; if we wrote more comments (a.k.a. more boxes) in the MyO version, we'd end up with several windows in the taskbar and we wouldn't know which is which.
I actually prefer myO's style. The current boxes have some weird clipping issues whenever there's a Flash object that they need to sit on top of.
Additionally, being able to see what you're commenting on while you write the comment can be very useful if the post happens to be long and that's easier when the comment window is on its own instead of having to re-position/scroll around the window within the page.
I have no problem with the comments as they are now, but I think that having them opening in a new browser window will help erase possible bugs that people have been having with this little comment box we're using right now.
OMG. MyO. ;__; The good old days. <3 I used to never want to leave that place, and boy did I stick around for a long time...but yeah. Anyhoo, I always liked those comment boxes. These new ones are definitely a step up from where they were at first (for the new version) because they won't close when you click outside the box lol. XD But I always did prefer the comments opening up in a new window. <3 If you could do that but keep all the wonderful things we have going on with the comments now (replies etc.), that'd be great.

Can you only read the last two because you can't scroll down? If so, try scrolling with two fingers :3 Adam told me that one himself.

I like the new style better. For a legit reason!

Personally, I prefer the current comment box now, since it wouldn't have any issues with the popup blockers installed in the browser.
