I agree! But I tend to over-analyze myself. Thus I spend so much energy on thinking how I could handle things better that I become to tired to do the things I want. For the past few months I'm finally feeling that I'm making huge steps in this and getting stable.
But never give up and try to be open with your struggles so others can help and support you. And take small steps at a time, don't demand too quickly from yourself that 'you should be able to do this'.
Do you know Rene Browns work? Here's and extremely interesting video on the core of "vulnerability/strenght/crisis/etc" link My favorite phrase is: "The wholehearted people have the courage and willigness to do something without guarantees". It has taught me a lot.
Thanks for the answer, Adam. It gives me some more insight into the whole concept of a quarter-life crisis. I especially like the part about reflection, since that's something I tend to do quite often.
People between the ages of around 15-22 are at a very turbulent time in their lives, especially the closer they get to that "magical" 18-21 period, and for a couple of reasons. First, their bodies and minds are finally reaching full stages of maturity, meaning they're just now starting to settle into who they really are.
Second, they're generally now tasked with a lot more responsibilities after having spent so many years in a fairly insular environment. It's both exhilarating and unnerving, liberating and terrifying, all at the same time. Lots of fun.
But if you act the same way at 40 as you do then, you're probably going to have much worse consequences. Losing your job, for instance. Or getting killed.
So, like Adam said, keep the age-shift small. Three or four years back should be the most you look simply because you're somewhat the same person and you have about as much experience to back you up.
This is fantastic. Well said. I'll definitely think back on this the next time I hit a life crisis xD
On a slightly related note, I always hated how people felt the need to celebrate or fight something for a day/week/month (Black History Month, Suicide Awareness Week, World Cancer Day, etc). People put a limit on themselves when they do that. Bad things should be battled every day and good things are to be respected and appreciated every day as well.
