I recently bought a 360 myself, and I highly suggest Halo 3, Tales of Vesperia, and BioShock. Halo 3 is, well, Halo. Tales of Vesperia is yet another very well made RPG from Namco-Bandai. And Bioshock is easily one fo the scariest, and most intense games I've ever played.
Just one note, I've looked into Eternal Sonata myself, and apparently it has a very lacking story. I did not buy because of this reason, even though I was originally very much so thinking about doing so.
Orange Box would be good. All of Half-Life and then Portal? Definitely must-haves. I'm not sure how they play on a 360, but still, get your hands on them.

all of thows sound great
you might wana get lost planet aw well the game play is awesome and the online game play is even better!!![i havent played it but my brother has and it looks awesome!!!
gears of war is awesome as well !! i love the versas player in it
Halo 3 can automatically drop a few slots. It's good mulitplayer, and I like the general storyline, but I think you'll definitely be blown away by COD4. After that, BioShock is one I've heard good things about, and from what I've seen of Lost Odyssey it's a good rpg with a very likable combat system.
I'd suggest Call of Duty 4, since it's such an amazing, god-smacking game, but if you're new to the 360 controller feel, you should go with a game that's less intense.
Though if you DO want to start out with a shooter, Halo 3 is probably your best bet. However, I must warn you, there are tons of little ones on multi-player that are rather immature. I've stopped playing Halo 3 because of it.
If you want a shooter with a storyline, though, I'd highly suggest BioShock.
And then Call of Duty 4.
Um, I'm not a huge fan of it, but my brother and his friends are dying over GTA 4. I think it's mostly because of sexual content.
I haven't played any RPG's lately, so I couldn't give you a review on them.
I've played the Tales of Vesperia demo and the Eternal Sonata demo though, which are both awesome.

I don't have a 360 myself, so I can't give a knowledgeable recommendation. But, if I were choosing, I'd pick Eternal Sonata. I've been wanting to play it for a long time.

I'd rather see in shades of gray.

Hahaha, the xbox 360 disease is spreading! Now if they would get xbox live I would have tons of more otaku buddies on there *Only has 2 at the moment*
Guess it all depends on what you're into to. If you played the other Halo's, get Halo 3, it's worth it. Call of Duty 4 if you haven't played them.
Tales of Versperia would be a good pick if you're not into shooters. Bioshock is freakin scary.

Ooh, you got a good list. It depends what you really like. My top 3 would be:
1. Call of Duty 4
2. Gears of War
3. Halo 3
And in the order you listed them in. How ironic.

Since we discussed it a bit, I'll say go with Call of Duty 4 for now. Then move on to Gears of War and BioShock afterwards.
