I've never heard of 'Crunchy Roll' (What a retarded name) so I quickly looked on it and the result was *trumpet sounds* CRAP!! Seriously? What are you worried about? I mean, they don't have ANY decent anime on there at all! No Kingdom Hearts, Naruto basically everythings missing!!! The Otaku is the best anime site I've seen....DON'T EVER SHUT IT DOWN!!! I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO SURVIVE!!!!
By the way, can you get the quiz thing up and running soon? My friend is driving me nuts about it. She has the whole quiz written out and everything!
Ah yes, as much as I want to slam those who are doing well even though they started off on such a bad note... what does it say about the anime industry for going through a venue that they know has dealt in a shady manner? Food for thought that one.
I wouldn't really expect business ethics from a bunch of college students making quick cash off of shows they stole from the Internet. Not only are they stealing from Japanese companies they are making money off of the hard work of fan subbers who provide their services for free. I'm surprised they are still around and Gonzo is making deals with them.
Of course there are ways to compete without going down the illegal gray area path. Why don't you try to make these deals with companies and bring their content to your site? I'm sure you could work out a deal to get anime companies to allow you to host their content on your site. The cost might even be supported through advertising.

If it's of any concellation (sp?) BossMan I've never heard of CrunchyRoll. And personally I don't think I'd want to. That name of theirs gives me a weird feeling (it's like buying coffee at a place called Mountain Mudd =3= )
And your hard work does pay off! In fact it's one of the reasons I like it so much here. You perserverance is something to be admired.
I've never even heard of Fark or Digg, but I actually like reading articles, then discussing.
To CrunchyRoll, they are probably doing things completely ethical in their eyes. To some of us what they're doing is wrong (I'm totally in the boat on this one), but they think it is perfectly okay. That's why humans are their own worst enemies.

I'm a member at Crunchyroll too, but I completely agree with you. It's rather amazing how much they manage to get away with just because the site's popular. :/
I read pretty much everything in the newspaper, so, longer news related posts won't bother me too much. But I do notice that some like to get the basics of the item and then comment on it. From the comments, it often goes off into some sort of discussion if the news item is interesting enough. News should get people talking, while it remains interesting at the same time, rather than one having to read some AP-like mass news item. Digg has a decent news setup.
There was a time when every hotel everywhere offered internet access with rooms, now you don't see that so much.
I'll take the Hot Box there over that previous blurb about the ranking list with that girly pink taunting in it.
I never did understand why legitimate industries would make deals with sites like Crunchyroll. Caving to coercion isn't the way to go to distribute content, and the industries themselves come out looking a little dingy in the process. You said it yourself, you and your team do things legit, and while places like Crunchyroll have a wealth of controversy and questions surrounding them, TheOtaku.com does not. In short, while you may have gotten a lower grade on this one test, Crunchyroll will fail the whole course while you move on to the Honors level because you actually know the material in the end.
Three weeks already, wow, it felt like it's been up for months. I'll agree on you having a ways to go yet, but I don't have my notes ready on suggested areas of improvement yet so I have to leave it at that.
I see that "Digg" thing all the time and have no clue what in the world it is for, or it's purpose. Generally, I get annoyed when I go to read an article and all it is is a few lines that tell me no more about something than the headline did. I get more so annoyed if I'm directed off a site to read "full" articles etc. because the article comes off as a promotional plant when it's posted as a short blurb with a plug to go see the whole thing somewhere else. I rarely comment on news bits as it is, so making discussion a larger part of the process doesn't appeal to me all that much.

Ethics in business are rare, sad to say. It's the whole "get to the top by stepping on people" mentality.
It seems like longer than 3 weeks. It's amazing.
I never read every news story, but I made sure to read the ones I did look at thoroughly before leaving my comments. I know there were some who didn't bother to be that thorough. It would be ncie if everyone could be, but I say if you think that other system would be more advantageous, then try it.
I am a member their and I was their for about three days and was disgusted with it. And I check on alexa.com and I cant believe that in one year it grew ten times faster than theOtaku.com did and you worked harder!

Don't worry, theotaku is still the best. No other anime site can possibly beat your awesomeness!
I like discussing, but I definitely want to read the entire news piece so that I know what I'm discussing.
I'd rather see in shades of gray.
