This was hilarious. I love how it was turned into a comic, cause seeing a pink haired girl deny being a main character by avoiding all the common tropes was awesome and hysterical. xD
Steampunk fairies, huh? So would their wings be all spiky and badass? I think my character would probably be really interested in fairies.
I should definitely work on that story! I need to review previous entries in this world to work out how I'm going to frame it through my character's eyes, if I post it in this world. I can start reviewing those tonight, though I may not get to posting till tomorrow.
I think I actually got the microorganism idea from your comment!
Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
It's totally fine! Fairies can be only natural-made so that the story will work. Nothing living that comes from a potion materialized out of nowhere, but rather, there are often bacteria or other microorganisms living in the cauldron or jar, and these things can be affected by the magic of the potion. This is especially true of plant-based potions, since there are often bugs or bug eggs in the plants. Many experienced potionmakers are aware of this and deliberately use these organisms in potions to shape the creatures they want to create. Novice potionmakers aren't always aware that this can happen and so they'll leave potions unattended for months and then discover they've got a very bizarre and often mischievous pet on their hands. But most potionmakers don't mess with life this way, and are careful to sterilize their potionmaking utensils and make sure their plants are free of bugs. Careful potionmakers also avoid using foods or alcohol in potions for the same reason. This is probably for the best, as tampering with these life forms can go wrong in bizarre and unanticipated ways.
I'll also add an amendment. These potion-borne creatures are not fairies and are not related to them. (I'll have to come up with separate classifications for them.) In the old days, some of them were mistaken for fairies, but now most reasonably well-educated potionmakers know better, since they possess no natural magic, are not nature-born, and many of them don't even have wings. They also need food or potion to feed on, whereas fairies can feed on pure magic sources or forest plants.
(Unless you had a different idea for what fairies are like? You can describe your classifications for fairies if that would help.)
Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
Yeah, I just made it up. So basically, anything manmade is not actually a fairy, but some of them are small and/or resemble fairies in some ways, so often humans make the mistake of calling them that when they don't know better.
That's a really good idea. I'd love to read the Identity story and see it appear in this world. I keep meaning to create stories here, but then I get tired. I'm seeing a doctor about my stomach soon, so maybe they'll figure out why I've been feeling so sick. I have a few ideas about what might be going on, I've found a few conditions that match my symptoms, so that's better than when I had no clue what might be causing it. But it makes me tired a lot of the time.
Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
Huh. My character better deal with that genie before that happens to her. She wouldn't enjoy it.
Many people just call all homunculi "faeries", so although it isn't technically correct in terms of official language, it has worked its way into spoken language. Magically-created homunculi are not the same as fairies, but they often pretend to be genuine fairies if they feel like getting up to mischief. Often potion-summoned creatures can be quite malicious. They aren't always, but they can be, depending on what ingredients were in the potion.
Unless the potion contained alcohol. Then their attempts at wreaking havoc can become a bit sad. It's not uncommon to see a winged creature flying lopsidedly around the house, hiccuping as it attempts to displace various household objects.
Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
Fairies born in nature are like that! Those spawned at the hands of humans are more susceptible to the influence of human vices.
Oh man, that's probably what happened. She could try and fix it, of course, but it's really more of a minor and glittery annoyance than anything. The disco genie's pretty apathetic about controlling people, he occasionally makes her dress in clothing reflecting extremely poor fashion taste, but that's about it.
Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
Well, my character doesn't know exactly how it works...she never grew berries in her hair. Though those who do grow plants out of their heads are probably more likely to attract bees...oh well, we do need to protect the bees for the environment. Perhaps potionmakers could brew and sell special plant-healthy shampoos? And there could be hairstylists specially trained in plant-infested hair care, although their services would likely be pricey.
Yikes, alcohol potions should never be exposed to high heat or left unused for long periods of time. Drunken fairies often climb out of abandoned bottles, and fairies do tend to cause quite some trouble when intoxicated. (The ones naturally-born in forests do not drink alcohol, but those spawned in potion bottles do imbibe some of the qualities of whatever was in the potion. Never spawn a drunken fairy!)
My character has been using glitter for quite some time and has never encountered the Disco Genie...perhaps she's merely been very lucky?
Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
Kinda does. I should write a basic potionmaking guide. Alcohol is an ingredient to be used with care, as is glitter. Plants can be used more lavishly, depending on the type, and it's not as disastrous to make a mistake with plant-based potions unless the plant itself its poisonous. Worst that usually happens is that their extremities temporarily turn green--y'know, fingers, toes, wings, tentacles--or they sprout twigs and leaves from their hair. This can be treated, though some people opt to just keep the sprouts, and many go on to reap a wonderful harvest of berries from their own heads.
Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
It kinda does, lol. There could be an anime about the threats posed by this terrible class and how friendship, magic, and extra-special potions save the day. (These potions are known on the campus as vodka and sprite--kidding, no one would ever pass this course if they drank during classes. But it's sugary potion and has candy in it.)
Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
The power of friendship is the magic that gets us through the class. We're gonna need a little extra energy to deal with the extremely dense readings. Or maybe we can hire a potion master to create a poem to boost brainpower and boredom endurance. A potion full of candy.

I should totally do that! I may have to wait for a bit since I have essays to finish tonight. One of them is for the most boring English class I have ever taken. I never thought I'd say I disliked a literature class, but I hate this one. It's a course requirement, though...got to suffer through it. I have met some great people in that class, and we have developed a camaraderie around how much we hate it.
Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
It was true though, I haven't made an original post in a long time, so I really should. Plus, as an aspiring writer I have to be able to take constructive criticism!
I need to start looking for an anime like that, where the protagonist is self-aware and knows they're a Main Character, but they really don't want any drama.

That it does. Vodka potions are at the root of zombie outbreaks, and so use of alcohol in potionmaking is carefully regulated in most dimensions.
