Can I be your devil advocate for the sake of argument?
Are humans really primitive? I mean if we follow the theory that animals and humans come from the same organism in a very distant time then I can say we have made much progress. Humans and animals are very different. Humans still have those basic instincts that are similar to animals but we have become much more complex. I think we are far from primitive and have come very far. Sure there is till greed, power hungry individuals, human slaughter but not in the same way as maybe 100 years ago. I agree that there is still a lot of problems but there are many good things that have happened as well. We can't let the ugly and negative things overshadow the good because then doesn't it seem like we are making it depressing without it being really 100% depressing.
I agree when you look at things from a larger scale certain issues seem useless but when it comes down to it the majority of the planet is affected by such issues and lives are lost everyday because of those issues so are they really useless. "to the world you maybe be but one but to one you might be the world"
I think people are becoming better. Look at all those organizations and causes that are up and running. I don't think human is in a stagnant state but an ever changing one. Sure it seems like a lot because change may happen over two lifespans but it still happens.
End of devil's advocate
Yay for deep thought. I think more along the lines of individualism and dealing with oneself and other people. I think about the lack of communication among human beings and the such. It can be depressing but very eye opening.
Damn idiot forgot to hyperlink it after I even copied the url. My bad. Here. It's an interesting read. You'll find some of yourself in it. (Well at least I did) It's all collective though, it's not all distinctive or exact. Don't let some of the disorders associated with it scare you. I just thought it might be interesting to read about this.
Wow, I cannot find the right expression to say that I'm completely there with you! Ditto?
When I was 18, I could not stop thinking like this for the life of me. Nonstop. I drove myself really depressed and lost a lot of sleep. That was the year I mentally grew into the person I am. It was a real bitch not going crazy, but I soldiered on just fine. And it really gives me a sense of re-enforcement and a weird but comforting feeling of a detached collective existence with fellow schizoids. =) I looked it up. My behavior, my mannerisms, my preference for solitude at times. I needed an answer for being the odd man out.
I discovered the term when I was listening to Tool (huge tool fan) and clicked on some related videos. The singer did a cover with the original King Crimson members of their song 21st Century Schizoid Man. I loved it. Didn't know was schizoid was, just generalized it as a related term to schizophrenia. But I was wrong. :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schizoid I found at least some form of identity. Yeah, it says "disorder" (pfft) but what if, just what if, we are actually the other things we think we are. (lol yeah, arrogance or better yet; a humble sense of superiority comes with it :X)
But I mean, come on. Nobody really knows. Have you seen how vast the freaking universe is?! NatGeo and History are also my fav channels. Have you seen that show? Wow. Intensely humbling learning about the universe.
Haha. It's nice to meet people like yourself. Hey, if you ever feel like chatting, I'm in the chat when I can be. And if you're not into the chat here, here's my msn: nomad-009@hotmail.com, add me if you'd like. Hit me up any time. Always up for a chat. =)
I've often thought about this. If there's a higher intelligence out there looking down on us, I'm pretty sure they're making fun of us because we're so primitive. The world is old, but we're a young species. Our existence is something humans have questioned throughout time. At least you think about these things, others just seem to pass by through life without even giving thought of their tiny existence or appreciating it. That's something we seem to take for granted. People don't realize how vast the universe is, expanding every second as the earth rotates. I surprises me how all of our little quarrels on this planet actually mean something to us, and how we tend to think we're so special. I don't think we're special at all; exceptional, maybe, but out of all the possibilities being that we could not be the only ones with a conscience in this universe (and I'm pretty sure we aren't) means that we're nothing special. We're nothing. Compared to everything that's out there. It's fascinating that, well suppose an apocalypse occurred like the theory of 2012. If there are survivors, how would they be able to build up all the fundamentals of the human race that previously existed. Would all of abstract thought such as tradition, culture, religion, etc. from the previous civilization be continued or would a new type of thought and being sprout? If so, how long would it last until we fall back into our original repetitive state of mind, living and habits? How long would they survive? It's so surreal if you think about it. Happiness really means nothing if you don't have anything to compare it to. So I never understood the whole American culture of the winner owns the most, you're happy if you have more than your neighbor and it's everybody for themselves. I'd like to test that when our race is put under stress and pressure when something bigger than us threatens our existence.
When I was a lot younger, I was really into aliens, space and the unknown and I used to do a lot of experiments and study history. Others found me a strange child. I stopped after a while, honestly don't know why since it was so interesting. I digress from the topic though. Sorry my post is a big long to read :P
I'm not alone either? <3 IO seriously thought I was the only person thinking like this. it's nice to know that there are some other people questioning life as well. I felt like that a lot on class; mainly because I was surrounded by a bunch of teenagers wasting time conversing about boys, what 'he said' or 'she said', and I felt miles away from them-- despite the fact that I was in the same room. We treasure ourselves as this... perfect, amazing species, beaming with intelligence--- and yet, we spend so much time, just wasting our brains?
That would be interesting; being an alien? And yes, we could save the world and it would be amazing. That's amazing though, that we have some of the same thoughts; it certainly is an interesting subject.
Oh, thank god, I'm not alone in the thoughts I have... see, this is what needs to be taught in schools. These kinds of ideas are what we should be having. I can't tell you how often I'm sitting in class and that feeling overcomes me, "What does it feel like to someone else when I look at me, or this room, or these people...? What if I wasn't a human and I looked at us with wonder and observation?"
Maybe you and I are the aliens. XD
No, seriously, I'm beginning to think that the whole 2012 thing is the day the aliens return and decide whether or not we're allowed to access their technology (DID some ancients have help from them...?) or if we're all doomed to kill ourselves with disease, famine, war, and self-destruction... :/
Yosei thinks deep thoughts... Solenm-san thinks deep thoughts... maybe we should band together and either try to save the human race, or try to be the survivors... XDDDD

I'm convinced that aliens were here in ancient times; this is one of the things that made me believe it: History Channel's: Ancient Aliens - The Visitors and also, Ancient Aliens - What if they returned?. I love the History channel so much. <3
