I totally agree, its like all the shit doctors get paid a lot, but those who actually do their job get paid shit. As for rare diseases, you won't mind me asking what your sister has? One of my brothers have autism and the other ADD, and I had a friend that has a little brother with cerebral palsy; it's tough.. I bet you're a good sibling though :)
LOL I'd be getting that woman to speak, I'd be scared if she wasn't. When I had to go in for pain in my diaphragm and stomach, the doctor kept pressing on the painful area even AFTER I told him that's where it hurt.
He was like *hits stomach* "does that hurt?"
"YES!!"
Doc: ... *presses on same area again* does that hurt?
Me: YES IT BLOODY FUCKIN HURTS I TOLD YOU WHERE IT HURT IN THE FIRST PLACE
oh fun hospital stories.
D: I'm sorry about your grandpa, that's horrible...
Yeah, what the hell? Seriously, you'd think there would be less bull in a business with such adorable animals. The medication was 200 dollars + 60 dollars for a food that helps prevent UTI. FUUUUU-
Wallet = in peril. Sorry about your dog too; it isn't fair. D;
Yeah, some doctors don't get paid what they deserve, but a lot get paid too much. Because my sister's disease is rare, there are only a few specialists for it; so it's normal to raise a brow on those people who obviously are not familiar with it, try to explain it like they've known it for centuries. //rolls eyes - nice to know someone else understands that frustration, I thought I was goin' crazy for a moment.
I remember this one doctor I visited. She said NOTHING. At all. I thought she was mute, or just completely out of it. I might've heard he murmur something, but it's crappy if I do all of the talking. What the point? I didn't go there for a therapy session! ;___; Speak woman, speak! //laughs
As for malpractice, I know all about; that's how my grandpa died. As a result, I never got to meet him.
Vets are a bunch of greedy jaggoffs. The same thing happened with my dogs. You go in to see if they'll be able to run an X-Ray or do something to properly diagnose a problem and the vet's all like 'LOL WELL MAYBE U SHOULD GET THIS MEDICATION FOR A TOTALLY DIFFERENT ISSUE JUST IN CASE'. Seriously, these people need to get it together. Not everyone can pay for their own medical bills let alone a pet's.
I do wish the best for your dog's quick recovery! You'll be in my prayers. ;(
Doctors these days seem rather corrupted. 0.o But in these times everyone wants as much money as they can get, no matter what level they must stoop to in order to achieve that. -_______-; I do hope your dog gets better soon, though. Best of luck to you in saving up money for the operation!
Nowadays, a lot of doctors... aren't real doctors. I remember when I first met my third pulmonologist and it turns out that I made my own prescription myself because he didn't even cared to know what I could need... Thanks God, I don't pay anymore when I see him.
I agree with you, their job is to find the truth and, in science, truth is where results are positive. They just had to make other tests... I wish the medical system in USA was like in France, though, I don't think it would have cost you so much each times... =/
I hope you will be able to have all the money needed for her operation soon, anyway...
Ugh. I'm sorry. My doctor's never done that. I took my pediatrician for granted but now I'm grateful that he did his best throughout my childhood to fix many medical conditions and illnesses. Some people just want money/convenience...selfish *******s. Well, I hope things go better for your family and for your dog.
Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
It is true doctors get paid a lot, more than probably what my family makes. But some doctors don't get paid a lot for all the time that they have to work either, especially in these times, they literally get paid shit compared to porn stars... plus the medicine is very costly. But I understand, paying lots o $'s a bitch. Some docs are just jaded assholes though, my mother was sick with a tumor and this nurse she had was an absolute bitch. She missed the IV in her arm about nine times... and then she bitched about that and told another nurse who was a foreigner to do it and they got it in the first time. It also turns out she was a little racist :/
I can't say its easy to do that job, I mean all the schooling people have to go through is ridiculous. I have friends and family members who are going into nursing so I know a little bit about what goes behind the scenes and am a little more sympathetic towards doctors and nurses... but holy shit, some things happen, and it just ain't right. Malpractice and fraud up the roof.
I have siblings that are special needs and since I'm around them 24/7, I swear sometimes that I know my siblings better than some quack that pulls crap outta their ass. So I sympathize with ya on that :P
Getting an x-ray + the initial visit would have collectively cost less. And we would've been able to save more money for the operation. Not only that, but they weren't positive; the blood tests didn't hint at UTI; actually, those tests came back perfect- it was more of an educated guess. If I were a doctor, and I wasn't positive about what was wrong, I'd do more than one test. It didn't save us money, it cost more. Two visits, multiple pills, and x-ray, now an operation. It's merely a little too convenient for them. Some doctors are great though; there was this one doctor my sister has briefly- amazing. Very nice, excellent in his work, and just- perfect. Certain offices don't measure up to other offices; in this case, I think they were too laid back.
You have to remember that doctors don't always know everything. ^^;
I mean... It's not like House M.D. where they just suddenly know what's wrong. Every time you see a doctor, they have to take the evidence in front of them and diagnose the problem. It's a SCIENCE, not a fact. Tests have to be run, problems accounted for, treated, then success or failure is the final product.
Remember in high school science labs when they'd give you a list of things and you'd have to test and take notes and then hypothesize and draw a conclusion based on what you observed?
Being a doctor is doing THAT everyday with every patient. Sure, Strep Throat and the common cold are easy to diagnose, but some things aren't. This doctor happened to stop short at UTI because the evidence fit that. Things inside the body are harder to diagnose, but they did make a mistake in not performing an X-Ray on the first visit. But, since he/she concluded UTI, they probably didn't see the need for an X-Ray and were actually trying to save you money for something they, at the time, didn't think you needed.
And, of course, there are some doctors out there that DO abuse the system for some extra money. But, I know most would never do that...
