Truth be told, I have absolutely no clue what happened during the period of time when I was dead. All I could tell was I died. I didn't have an out-of-body experience. My life didn't flash before my eyes. All I saw was darkness. The only thing I knew of was I was going to be buried in the ground. Forgotten. It wouldn't be that bad though. No one really seemed to care, so it didn't matter. Just alone... in the darkness.
But, something, I'm not completely sure what, but a shocking sensation entered my body. My eyes flew open and pain screeched through my veins. I winced in pain and clutched at my knees, pulling myself into a fetal position and closing my eyes while groaning. "Ah... so the experiment was a success," a hissing, old voice, beckoning its way into my ears, said quite contently.
I shuddered at the coldness within the voice but opened an eye. What I opened it to though... looked as if he appeared out of a nightmare though. He was a small-stature man... I believe at least. He had a somewhat bird-like appearance with bolts in his head. He kinda reminded me of a child of that one Frankenstein guy. He made my skin crawl if bugs were still inside my body at the time. He soon turned the machine off and I relaxed, but blinked a few times and got off the table. The man spoke as I looked around at everything in the room. "You should be grateful you know... Your body would've rotted in that hole if I didn't bring you here."
I passed by a mirror but paused and came back to it, looking at my appearance. "I have to admit..." he boastfully continued, "I had to make a few minor modifications to make in your case due to the poison in your system, but by my calculations, everything should work properly."
The mirror I was looking into no longer showed what I was formerly... I was something different. My eyes changed to a blackish color and the blood vessels burst and flooded into my pupil, turning it red. My brown hair had grown a little, enough to cover my eyes in fact. My ears were strange. They had become tan and looked like they replaced my ears with an elf's. A brown bushy collar trim grew around my neck and nearly covered my chest. My teeth were even changed and sharpened to pencil point. I had gray claws on my feet and hands. Something that you won't even believe, I had ten foot wings behind my back. WHAT THE HECK AM I A GARGOYLE?! "You call this little modifications?! What... What did you exactly do?!" I snapped at him.
He glared at me. "Your DNA ran cold like your blood, nearly freezing and half of it was destroyed from the poison that managed to shut down your organs. I had to use a bat's to help assist move everything along."
I scoffed at him. "You couldn't stop there?!"
"Have some manners you ungrateful brat!" he snapped.
I turned to face him and felt like punching him. HAVE SOME MANNERS?! He's the freak that goes around digging bodies up and reanimating them to look like freaks. How could I have manners towards a guy like that?! "Show some respect towards your creator."
"Creator?" I asked, almost spitting the word out.
"Yes..." he hissed, "I'm your father, to put in a way your simple mind can understand."
I tilted my head. 'Since when does a father do this to his so called son?!'
"Now all you need is a name..." he moved his wheelchair out of the room, beckoning me to follow.
I frowned at his tone. He was referring to me like I was an idiot that knew nothing. I glanced at the mirror once more, my mutated eyes pierced back at me. Then I turned away and glared after him. "Hybrid," I spit out, "My name is Hybrid." Then I followed him out the door.
I later learned the man's name was Dr. Finkelstein. Needless to say, I couldn't say I liked him too well even though he was technically my "father." He pretty much treated me worse than he treated dirt. I mean, seriously, it's bad enough when you're treated worse than dirt. I was sent out to gather and dig up body parts, bones, electronic devices, machinery, and anything else that could be of use to him. You could call me his messenger boy or dog... yeah, dog would fit.
I started to wonder why he reanimated me. I know it was for his own selfish gain from what I saw, but... I figured he'd do away with me once it was done or sell me for some petty money. That's what people have been known to do, so I didn't see why he kept me longer than what most others did... But then, I found out the reason very quickly.
All because of the name "Sally."
