Times changed... Here I am now... lying in the forest floor... alone... abandoned and outcast... destined to remain like this as I guessed. Sally, as my "little" sister was called, seemed to be the only thing my "father" wanted in the first place... I was only a pawn that was created for his own gain... yet also causing me to wake up in a hellish nightmare and live once more.
After living with Sally for many months and dealing with the Doctor's constant shouting at me... that day... it finally came... It turned quick, but I didn't know it was going to happen until it already did.
I sat in Sally and my room that we shared, on the bunk bed. It was a slow day, Finkelstein told me to take a break and go rest. so I figured that things were okay... they weren't. "Hybrid," a voice called from the door opening.
I looked up from the floor to look at the girl standing in the door. "What is it, Sally?"
"Father sent me up here with some wormswart to give you. He said he made it himself," she told me, setting the soup on the ground in front of me with a spoon.
"Not hungry," I said simply.
I was stressed as it was and I didn't need her coming in here and trying to show the guy has at least one ounce of kindness within his body. It just made me burn up with anger. Especially because he didn't have the decency to try to make it look like he made it himself by coming up here.
"Please brother?" Sally said in her usual sweet tone, "He's at least trying..."
I rolled my eyes and picked the soup up. "I suppose you're right..."
I stuck my tongue into the soup, to check if I'd like it or not, and then started lapping the wormswart up. Sally smiled lightly to me and then left the room. Once the soup was entirely gone, a sudden drowsy sensation took over and I fought to stay awake. I fell to the floor to only see the sight of wheels before I blacked out.
---
"Ugh... My head..." I groaned, rubbing my head and yawning.
My eyes widened at what I had just woken up to though and I stopped rubbing my head. I rapidly looked around and stumbled off the ground. Trees... dead trees, leaves, and rocks were everywhere, but I didn't see my sister or the doctor anywhere. It hit me just then, the last thing I saw was a wheelchair... "He did want to get rid of me..." I said, my eyes dulling even more than they were.
I slouched, staring at the ground, folding my bat wings back against my body, and walked slowly through the woods of dead trees. 'Who needs them anyway? I sure don't. I never did and I can live for myself.'
I lived within the woods for many months, in fact, my sense of time went away and I couldn't tell night from day or if it had been a year... all I know is it had probably been months. I loved the taste of the bugs because they were so crunchy and had a certain thing to them... I couldn't really describe it though. I ate certain bugs, mainly crickets and cockroaches, if I could capture them. I even flew within the forest, biting at and capturing moths and mosquitoes... then one night... something happened.
"I can't believe the fireflies are out tonight!" I said happily as I flew around capturing and eating some.
I got some of them, but then one took off flying in another direction. Not wanting to let it get away, and knowing that I was fast, I flew after it. I chased it, but man, was that bug quick. As I closed in, it dodged and flew faster. 'Oh, no you don't!' I thought, continuing to chase it.
The insect flew into a tree house, causing me to crash into the opening. And if that wasn't bad enough, I tumbled and fell in through a pipe opening. I slammed against the metal so roughly that my head felt sore. I finally hit the last part of it, my wings hit against the wind and opened... Gravity had another plan though, and I ended up slamming into the floor against something. "Ugh..." I groaned.
Pounding, trudging, and stomping all hit my ears at once and I covered them like a gong had been placed near my head and had just been struck with the mightiest force possible. "Well, well, well, how'd you get in here?" a thunderous voice seemed to roar in a somewhat country-like accent.
I looked up to see what looked like a giant green rag-doll sack. "I wasn't expecting anybody, especially someone I've never even met before," he laughed, almost entertained, "What? Did Boneman send ya?"
I sat up and scratched my head. "Who?"
My question just made him laugh even harder to where a seam in the bag busted and a few bugs came out. "Oh shoot!" he noticed, "Look what you've made me do!"
I sighed. "Relax, look, I'll fix it," I replied calmly, taking the broken seams and tightening them, then tying them back together.
I cracked my knuckles as he looked over the sewing job. "Done."
After saying that, something started crushing up against me, which I realized was that sack of bugs hugging me by one stub around the neck and thoroughly rubbing my hair out of place. "Kid! You're a life saver!" he said excitedly.
I pushed him off me and fixed my hair. "My name isn't "kid" it's Hybrid," I said, glaring at him with my black and red eyes.
"Ah... I see... I see my boy... Nice to meet ya," he said somewhat boisterously, "Name's Oogie. Oogie Boogie the very own bogeyman! The scariest guy around!"
I was quiet for a second after I watched him strike a pose. "Someone thinks a little highly of himself..."
He fell down from the mighty pose and then stood up. "And what do you mean by that?!"
I brushed my shoulders off. "As a human, I saw things WAY scarier than you," I scoffed.
I heard a growl from the bag, but then that turned to a laugh and escalated. He put his stub around my shoulder again. "Ya know what, Hybrid? I like ya," he said, still laughing, "You're okay."
"You aren't going to be if you don't take that arm off me," I threatened.
My threat only just seemed to make him laugh harder though. "You have a place to stay?" he asked, trying to stop his laughter.
"No," I replied.
He smirked. "Well, ya do now!"
And from that moment on, I lived with Oogie within that dark place he seemed to call home. Everything went great and fine. No complaints from this bat. Yup, I'm a bat. And I will forever be known as Hybrid... Blackjack anyone?
