Chapter 6:
Jack came home around 10 at night, furiously slamming the door and death glaring Kai who at the time was playing Quiet Mountain 4 – her favorite horror video game.
"You’re home early. I didn’t expect you until, like, one in the morning. Dang, that extends my plan’s timeline quite a bit." From beside her, she pulled out a blue notebook and scribbled something in it. "So..."
"So, WHAT?" Jack threw his vest to the ground.
Calmly, Kai turned her attention back to her game. "For one, pick that up. And two," Even though she was watching the TV screen for any monsters, a mischievous grin that even the Cheshire Cat would be proud of slowly spread over her face. "So, how what the D-A-T-E?"
"I don’t want to talk about it." Jack reluctantly picked up the vest, plopped on the couch, and kicked his feet up onto the coffee table.
"Alright, what happened?" Pausing the game, Kai grew slightly serious and her smile faded. She wasn’t used to seeing Jack this depressed. It almost…worried her. "Come on, tell me what happened."
Childishly, Jack crossed his arms and looked away. "Don’t want to."
"Jack..."
"Look, just. Stop." He stood up, and ran his hand through his hair. "Just stop this, alright?"
In the pale light of the room, Kai could just barely see Jack’s face as he turned and went down to his basement room. The main thing she noticed was his eyes. His usually passionate, red eyes were hazed over a bit and were shining the way they do before you cry.
"Oh, Jack..." Kai said. What happened to you?
