"It hurts." He sobbed into my chest. "It hurts so much."
"I know." Gently, I rubbed small circles on his back, trying to calm the poor boy down a bit. "I know."
"Why? Why?!" His thin body shook with every cry. "Why..."
He's been through so much, and all I can do is sit here and comfort him. I hated that fact. There was really nothing either of us could do, except to cling onto each other as if there was no one else around us. He was so small, and even though he looked brave and tough on the outside, I knew the real him. The real him was just a child, who was scared of the world around him.
That's why I have to be the one to protect him. He needed me as much as I needed him.
"Green?" He looked up and his puffy, red eyes stared at me from underneath black hair. "Can you do me a favor?"
"Of course." I lovingly smoothed down his messy hair, a gesture that he usually hates, but didn't seem to mind that time.
"Can you promise me… that you'll never leave me?" Red wrapped his arms around me and leaned his head into my chest again. I could feel his heart racing and his face felt hot from the blush he was hiding. "Please. I don't want to lose you too."
"I swear. I'll never EVER even dream of leaving you." I vowed, knowing that this was one promise I could never and would never break. He's lost so much in such a short amount of time, that I knew if I let him down, he would break. Right now, he's dangling by a thin, gossamer thread above a dark and bottomless pit.
And I'm the only thing holding him up.

Zack: Hey, Cloud.
[Cloud looks up]
Zack: Ever wonder what it's like to be in love?
Cloud: [blushes] C-Can't say I have.
Zack: Really?
Cloud: [averting his eyes] Yeah...
Zack: Huh. [looks up at the ceiling] Cause for some reason, that's been on my mind lately.
Cloud: [hint of jealousy] Problems with Aerith?
Zack: Nah. Actually...it's with someone else.
Cloud: [hopeful] With whom?
Zack: [looks over and smiles] With you.
Cloud: [blushes furiously] M-Me? Wait, you're joking, aren't you!
Zack: Nnnnope. I really mean it. [looks back up at the cealing] I've been thinking long and hard about you and I. I know it's kind of impossible, with our current situation...but that doesn't mean that the thoughts stop.
Cloud: [blushing a bit less now] Z-Zack...
[Zack leans over Cloud and lifts his chin up]
Zack: Come on Cloud, you can't deny it. There's something more at work between us.
Cloud: But Zack! You belong with Aerith! I-I'm not!
Zack: You're not what, Cloud? Not perfect? Not meant for me? Because you're everything to me. You're the one thing that keeps me going, Cloud. You have to understand that.
Cloud: Zack, we can't be together. We'll get thrown out of SOLIDER!
Zack: [actually thinks about that] Hrm...that WOULD be a problem... [shakes his head] Oh well! Who cares? [wraps his arm around Cloud] As long as we have each other, we don't need anything else!
Cloud: [touched] Zack...
Zack: See? You're finally agreeing with me! [smiles] So, whaddaya say? Wanna be mine, Cloud?
Cloud: I...I...[rests his head on Zack's chest] I'm so glad.
Zack: Been holding that in this entire time?
Cloud: Yeah...[hugs Zack] I'm just so happy. I thought...I was the only one thinking that...
Zack: So, big-bad Cloud was scared of his own thoughts?
Cloud: [blushing] Y-Yeah...I thought that if I told you...you'd hate me.
Zack: Me? Hate you? Impossible! [Cloud looks up at Zack] I love you too much, Cloud!
Cloud: Zack...
Zack: Yeesh, how many times are you going to say my name in that lost-puppy voice? [laughs a bit] Even though it is adorable!
Cloud: Mmmmm! [blushing]
Zack: [laughing] You're so cute! Hey, watch this! [drops down and kisses Cloud passionatly on the lips]
[At first, Cloud has is eyes wide open, but then becomes more comfortable and closes his eyes]
Zack: [breaks the kiss and kisses Cloud on the forehead] Feel good?
Cloud: [nods, blushing alot] Actually, yeah.
Zack: You see, Cloud, that's what's called forbidden love. And in my opinion, its the best feeling in the world.
