Yeah, it's nasty stuff that happens with age. Plus being purebred doesn't help matters much. (Lower gene pool and what.)
Add onto Buster's ailments the arthritis he's got in his back legs, and the liver spots he's developed on his lips, around his eyes, and on the top of his head, and the poor guy . . . well, he's a trooper, really. Never complains about much. Mostly he just wants someone to sit on because he loves being on people.
I go to the vet constantly because of my dog Rusto. He's had ear infections all of his life (curse of the purebred Golden Retriever), and a thyroid problem since he was about 2. He's also on doggy benedryl because of his allergies...
He's a regular druggie, really. Haha.
And last month he had a bit of a spell and we don't really know what happened. I think I told you about it. He basically couldn't stay standing for any longer than 30 seconds. His front legs were jumpy. So we took him to the vet, and they didn't really know for sure what happened either. They figured maybe he got into a little brawl with our younger dog Cyborg, and maybe Rusto fell and hit his back in a weird way. They suggested taking him to a different vet to get an MRI, but that costs like $2000... So we said no, and they gave us steroids to give him for a couple weeks. Luckily, that did the trick, so we're hoping it was just a strange spell from falling and it won't come back in the future.
Oh. And right now he's on medication for an infected..butt. Yup. My poor dog. He's nearly 10 though, old man. :P
Jake and Cyborg though... Young'ns. And Rusto hates them.

I think Rusto dreams of sitting in our laps. It'll never happen though. He's 110 pounds. XD
