Oh gosh, I was just thinking about this. On top of being infuriating, the whole thing is totally counterproductive. The pre-video ads don't give me a burning desire to buy a product or service, they just make me want to avoid Youtube altogether. So they're infuriating and completely useless.
I'm fairly certain X-Play once mentioned that you can now see Star Trek on G4... if you can see the screen behind all the ads advertising Star Trek on G4.

The other trend I find annoying with ads lately are the ones on TV where they have the little ads for shows WHILE you're watching something. And sometimes the ad can take up a good quarter of the screen, which is just awful.
Methinks we need to introduce the internet advertising machine to the internet hate machine.
By the way, they have radio ads for the googly-eyed stack of money. They pay people to stand in a studio and describe a stack of money with googly eyes on top.
