Incidentally, there's a stark difference between "not making stupid mistakes over and over as if you're mentally challenged" and "oh excuse me I actually planned for all of this to happen even though I obviously didn't".
Sousuke Aizen falls under the thing I mentioned here. Everyone who's ever come close to foiling his plans (regardless of whether or not they actually did hinder them, and completely ignoring whether he later claimed they aided it) was allowed to do so because he didn't just man up and have them slashed in half. The battle over Karakura City also falls under this category because at that point his resources were matched by those of Old Man Infernape. Were it me, I either wouldn't have killed anyone in the first place (you know, to keep suspicion off myself) or would have summarily slaughtered anyone who seemed to be opposing me but much too weak to actually accomplish the task.

Villains gotta be genre blind sometimes, or else everyone would be Sousuke Aizen, and nobody wants that. It's true some of their more common mistakes do seem pretty frickin' dumb, though. The very existence of a self-destruct button is usually a somewhat questionable decision, for example.

@SunfallE:
Then I would have had to title the post "Ideas". The title was singular; as such you should have expected a small item. =P

For some reason I was expecting more than that snippet. Not sure why.
