I think this is one reason why I thoroughly enjoyed The Island of Dr. Moreau, which I only just read through recently.
As I was making my way through the novel, I did begin to have some idea of what was likely to happen, but this was never explicitly spelled out in advance.
It's interesting that I knew, from the outset, that Pendrick would get off the island eventually. This was evident in the fact that we were reading his account, written subsequent to his evacuation from the island.
However, this did nothing to allay the constant sense of trepidation and curiosity that pervaded every chapter. It was just so brilliantly constructed and now I am just amazed that I missed out on this novel for so long!

I have to agree with you on stories. It's good to see how things unravel.
Although I can't say that I'm good at story telling... Sometimes I struggle with setting things up. It's like I have bits and pieces of detail lacking, or sometimes I'd end up focusing too much on something that ends up being unimportant in the end... Well, probably some planning ahead could definitely help.
This was very interesting to read and it got me thinking. Thank you.
Also, was the name really that long? Wow. I'd rather go with Mary Sue... hahaha...
