I've never played an MMO before, but when this originally came out, I must say I was quite tempted. I also adore Tolkien's works and from everything my brother's said about the many games centered around them, it sounds like they're all quite decent.
Sadly, I have not the time or motivation to really get into it. I tend to obsess, and before I open a new door to quite likely obsess-about-able things, I'd need to deeply consider it first. Every time, though, musical pursuits take precedence for me.
It's great that you enjoy it so much. And woot! about your hair. Mind drawin' Kimmeh and me a sketch? XP

As far as time goes, both WoW and LotRO have a built-in Exp-boost system that keeps notes on how often characters are online, and compensates their experience gain to match. The longer you're offline, the longer the boost lasts when you log back in. I've had a boost last through three levels before, which makes it really easy to catch up to things.
That's something I strongly agree with, actually: a system to offer semi-incentives not to play as frequently as some of the "hardcore" players. I don't think I'd want to log in every day. Once a week would be enough.
Also, my father played D&D in college, and I was looking into doing it myself. =D
This sounds like an excellent MMO. I know I would probably not have to patience/time/money to invest, but it does make me feel a little better about the fantasy MMO genre.
...and everything you've said in both comment and post made perfect sense, just to let ya know. *used to play D&D*
I didn't realize you were an LOTR fan o.o oooo nice :D
*dies laughing* IT'S MAGIC! IT'S MAGIC!! HAHAHAHAHH *coughing she's laughing too hard* my friend would say that to anything that did or didn't make sense! xD "would you like a hersheys kiss?" "OOO! IT'S MAGIC!"
"heyy!!!! ;_; how's your marshmellow catch on fire but not mine!" "it's magic :D"
btw alla i drew you something bwahahaha i just need to finish it and put it up >D
So far as LotRO has progressed, it's got a fair amount of nice features. Selectable classes currently are Burglar (debuffer), Champion (DPS), Guardian (tank), Captain (buffer, pets), Hunter (nuker), Minstrel (healer), and Loremaster (crowd control, pets) in the original release; Runekeeper and Warden are, as I said, the new additions.
My thoughts on it are basically that it's just as good as WoW, with a tad more realism thrown it. WoW was based on a system that was based on a concept that was based on Tolkien, and since this is based on both Tolkien and the WoW system, you get a bit of the original blood back in the mix again. I thought about looking into WoW, but it just seemed too cartoony to me—which is the same sensastion I got playing Fable. Too much galumphing around. =P
Anyway, I really enjoy the LotRO system. None of the classes are out of line with the universe, and the game follows the story tentatively, only placing the characters in events in such a manner as to say "Oh, that could have been happening in the background, sure," without being intrusive on the story itself. And even then, most of the quests have nothing at all to do with the main plot; that's only touched on in the Epic Quest section, which as I mentioned stays a fair bit in the background of the main story. There's basically nothing the character can do, so far as I've seen, to influence any of the canon at all, which I respect. And yet the LotRO creators still put enough content in to make the game fun.
Since I don't play that kind of game, most of what you just talked about didn't make a whole lot of sense. Other than one important thing... It sounded like you were having a lot of fun. =P

I didn't get the most part of what you wrote because I don't own any LOTR videogames but it seemed you had quite a fun time playing it.
