Someone seriously needs to draw the Tron squirrels.
Instead of just answering your questions one-by-one, I'll make a general li'l statement.
My writing style is quite similar to yours, actually. I can never write anything quickly, whether it's simple RP business or college papers. The first sentence is always the toughest part. It has to be perfect, or else I can't continue on with anything else. I tend to think about what I'm going to write for a long time before I ever get started, too. When it comes to a story, I have to be able to see the image of the scene in my head first, then I can actually start typing.
See, I'm a bit of a perfectionist.
Of course, this only applies to writing I actually care about. I would always put much more time and effort into all my English class papers than I ever would for College Success. Same can be said for certain RPs.
Hope that's a good enough answer for ya. *poke* :P
How do you go about writing?
Uh... I'm not sure, I've never really thought about it. Probably because I do so little of it. I read far more than I write. XP
What medium do you use?
I use my computer... well except for what little poetry I write. I have a little book for that. ^_^
Do you spend time preparing for it?
For homework, a little. Other than to make sure there is nothing to distract me, I don't really do much else. Well unless I need research materials first, then I hunt that stuff down.
Do you write as quickly as possible, or take your time?
Never thought about it. I just go at the pace that seems to fit my current state of mind? Never thought about whether or not it was quick.
How extensively do you plan out what you want to write?
I don't think about it. Usually my writing is homework so I just follow the instructions. >_> And organize my notes so I get it all straight.
Can you sit down and begin immediately, or do you need stare into space for many minutes first?
Uh... usually I clear my room of distractions, like music or the TV being on. Then I sit down and get started and sometimes I still stare into space to determine where I want to start. ^_^
How do you go about writing?
Oh the urge to say... very carefully. :p Seriously, I just do and the type of writing dictates the means, that will be answered by the other questions after this one.
What medium do you use?
Other than music, the computer. And even music ends up put into a program for printing since my handwriting is laughable.
Do you spend time preparing for it?
Usually. Though the type of writing determines just how much or little preparation is taken.
Do you write as quickly as possible, or take your time?
I never write quickly or rather if I do, that's a rough draft that I go back over and correct, filling in the gaps or re-wording things to make sense. Quickly is only for simple posting, everything else takes time.
How extensively do you plan out what you want to write?
Some things get very extensive planning, for example... school work. Stuff like rpg posts are probably next on the list since I like having some form of outline, even if it's only in my mind, down to help me stay focused on where I'm going.
Can you sit down and begin immediately, or do you need stare into space for many minutes first?
Sometimes I can, since often I've been thinking about what I want to say before hand. Stuff like my dissertation... Uh no. That one I just can't sit down and begin, too much going into it and I often have to backtrack into materials I've gathered for it.
Other stuff, it's far easier for me to sit down and begin immediately, however, its often broken by moments of doing something else. Like stopping to listen to a song, or doing that staring off into space to refocus my thoughts. :p
How do you go about writing?: I usually think about what I want to write and toy around with it for a while before writing it down. I have to do it quickly though, because I easily forget. Depending on what I write, I might develop a topic, a theme or a film trailer (those are always fun).
What medium do you use?: Mostly the computer, sometimes paper-and-pencil if there is no computer available. I do lots of little notes and things here and there for longer, more involved pieces, so keeping track of where I wrote what can be a hassle.
Do you spend time preparing for it?: Sometimes. Research papers usually require just gathering material and starting cold right at the computer. Articles require me to read my sources extensively first. It's not like I box in the air or anything before writing. I just sit down and... write. I might get something to eat/drink before hand, if you can call that spending time preparing.
Do you write as quickly as possible, or take your time?: I defininately take my dear, sweet time. Freecell distracts me waaaay too easily.
How extensively do you plan out what you want to write?: Most one-shot fanfictions I write usually come out of total nowhere and are on a whim. If I work with the story and develop it over a period of a few days/weeks/whatever, then I usually have a lengthy, detailed plot description, character biography and even chapter breakdown that can tail into ten or more pages at the least. The thing is, I might have half a story down before I begin writing, then work out kinks later. Ending a story, or getting from the middle to a developed end, is difficult.
Can you sit down and begin immediately, or do you need stare into space for many minutes first?: Freecell and playing music helps clear my mind. It works so well, that hours can go by without me knowing. If I am lucky enough to be able to snap out of it, I can type for over five hours straight with no break. My ecletic music taste helps to put many different moods in the writing as well.
How do you go about writing?
Bascially, if I feel like it, no matter where I am, I'll start to write as long as I have something I can write with.
What medium do you use?
Generally computer, but if I only have pen and paper, I'll use that too.
Do you spend time preparing for it?
Generally, but it depends on what I'm writing. Some things I just sit down and write with very little forethought. Others I plan for hours and hours, just for a page or two.
Do you write as quickly as possible, or take your time?
Once again, depends on what I'm writing. If I know exactly what I want to write, I can eat up paper in a short matter of time. Other times I'm writing, but I'm not completely sure HOW I want to say what I want to say, so I take longer.
It'll be interesting to read everyone's answers since there are so many creative people on this site.
How extensively do you plan out what you want to write?
Again, depends on what I'm writing. Some essays and stuff I just get the main idea in my head, then start writing. Other things, like a novel I'm currently working on, I've spent literally hundreds of hours just pondering about what exactly should happen, how things should go, etc., planning way, way into the future to make sure that everything that I want to happen, happens.
Can you sit down and begin immediately, or do you need stare into space for many minutes first?
Depends on my mood. Sometimes I'll have an idea, but I'm not in the right mindset to write, and it takes me a while to get my idea down. Other times, I'll be in the right mood, and I'll start immediately, and not stop for some time.
How do you go about writing?
If it’s for story ideas, I often jot down short notes in a little pad I have just for that purpose. I’m always getting ideas so I keep a small one handy for taking notes, especially by my bed since I have the wackiest dreams. XP But that’s just the starting point.
What medium do you use?
Some starts as simple notes on paper, but the rest always goes to the computer since I have arthritis. It’s doesn’t interfere with work or other things, but that holding a pencil… Typing is a much better option so other than notes I tend to stick mostly to using word.
Do you spend time preparing for it?
If my writing needs it, yes, otherwise, no. I do prepare mentally for everything I do, even if it’s a simple reply at OB, because naturally what you want to say goes through your mind first, but I don’t really prepare for it. Now for other ideas like my Silver One stuff and Shinigami Dance… those do get preparation and though it varies, I just about never sit down and just write.
Do you write as quickly as possible, or take your time?
Only if I have the idea firmly in mind. If I don’t, other than notes, nothing gets written. I have to see where I’m going or what I want to have happen for at least part of what I’m writing or I just sit there and stare at the screen or paper and nothing comes out. Sometimes I get stuck on where to start, it’s annoying. Once that clicks though, it does seem to just flow. Like two different possible histories I did for SD, both of those were written in about 10-15 minutes because I had the ideas in my mind when I went to write.
How extensively do you plan out what you want to write?
For stories, a lot, since I have things I want to have happen, those plans change of course, but I still plan them. I tend to have more than one direction that I want to go planned, even in regular posting and writing. I get hung up on updating because I have to pick what to write about and sometimes I just can’t. XP
Can you sit down and begin immediately, or do you need stare into space for many minutes first?
I kind of answered this already, but if I have that mental image or the info of where I want to go then yes, I can just sit down and begin. But most of my writing… by the time I sit down, I’ve already been running it through my mind for days, weeks and even months before I start. And sometimes, even with that… I still have to stare at nothing to get started!

How do you go about writing?
It depends on what I’m writing for. If it’s say an essay or homework assignment then those often get planned and mapped out so I know where I’m going and what I wish to cover before I get to the end.
If it’s simple letters or conversation, I just say what I’m thinking, no back work since it’s close to speech only typing instead. :p
Now for rpg stuff, that too depends, something I’ll go into further along here.
What medium do you use?
Usually a computer, because I write slowly and typing makes it easier to keep up with my thoughts, even if they are disorganized at times.
Do you spend time preparing for it?
Again depends, casual stuff like posting at a message board or doing a post here, not really, often by the time I start, what I want to say has already run through my mind and all that’s left is getting it out in a document.
School work and some rpg writing can have lots of time spent preparing for it. It varies as to the assignment or even the scene I have in mind for say an rpg post.
Do you write as quickly as possible, or take your time?
Basic posts are usually pretty quick, they’re just my thoughts and not a planned response or rather extensive time isn’t needed. For something like an essay for school or rpg posts though, I take my time if I need to.
How extensively do you plan out what you want to write?
Only when I need to or rather want to, I love extensive planning like what we’ve done for Shinigami Dance, but at the same time, if something doesn’t need it. I don’t plan extensively.
Can you sit down and begin immediately, or do you need stare into space for many minutes first?
I feel like a broken record here, again, it depends. Sometimes I can sit right down and get going, other times, I have to find the starting point. Take my post the other morning in Shinigami Dance, I was running the events to that in my mind for days before I even started. And with all that, it still took me working on it off and on for over six hours to complete it. XP
