Gosh you’re a silly goofball. XD Anyway that was an amazing find. Did you ever get the chance to look at the scrapbooks? That would have been really neat to read.
I think military service, because it’s so much more than combat, is a good idea. I couldn’t do it myself, my health means I don’t qualify, but I can see how a period of serving would help people better understand it.
You aren’t the only one tired of hearing the word naïve, my parents have commented, more than once, that the constant nitpicking, mudslinging and bickering among politicians and the media lately is among the worst they have ever seen.
I watched part of a session for something the other day, and the woman speaking, her tone of voice, her facial language and manner of speaking, all I could think was that she looked like a five year old throwing a temper tantrum. =_=
I didn’t vote for Obama, and he has policies I don’t agree with but good grief. It’s done and over with so constantly putting him down instead of working to solve the nation’s problems is just petty and childish.

I think I would have been curious to take a look. Something like that would have been very fascinating to browse through. Not sure if I would do so without permission though.
Now as for the other, it seems to be the case to simply toss out insults instead of attempting to see what the other side is trying to do. Politics just tend to make me lose faith in people's ability to act with clear rationality and civility.
I'm Democrat but at the same time, I prefer to vote for someone because I like or agree with what they are trying to do. If I think the Republican candidate is going to do a better job, then that's who I vote for. I only consider myself Democrat since roughly 90% of the time, that's who I end up voting for.
It's a shame that often it's nothing more than a constant power play instead of two groups working together to solve the nation's problems via compromise.
My grandfather wasn't quite old enough to serve in WWII, but he did serve in Vietnam. When I got the courage to ask him about his time in the military, he said something about the same line as your older lady friend about the branches, lol.
But that is pretty cool coming across all that stuff. I definitely would have been a little nosy if it had happened to me. >>;
As far as the second page goes, I agree that naive is used a bit too much nowadays (even facetiously, though I admit I do it, sometimes). I'm generally pessimistic by nature, but there are a lot of things that I'm trying to have a positive outlook on, which is really the only thing that is keeping a lot of people going at this point. I say kudos to those that do have the ability to see new/good/different ways of going about the norm.
In terms of politics, I'm starting to grow tired of the little debates. I'm Democrat, but I'm Democrat through research. Yes, I could have voted for Obama just because he's (part) black or just because he was the Democratic nomination, but I actually looked at where he stood on different policies and saw that he had a different view that may help the country do a little better. The Left vs. Right mentality that drives a lot of the voting (for people that actually -do- vote) is ludicrous and pointless at best. But that's just my view.
Also, lawl @ Nehs for considering Fox News "news media". From a journalist's perspective, they're like Muppets moonlighting as reporters. And that's slightly offensive to Muppets.

Mmm, I have uncles who served in the Navy. You'd think with today's atmosphere (or at least this is how it seems), that could be a negative thing since "they were promoting violence, oh noes!" But naw, my uncles are all cool guys from what I can tell. I think any kind of public service forces you to grow up (of course, basing this off NO experience in said public service, but hey).
And on the second half, I concur. I get tired of people throwing around insults. It's a shame we can't act more civilized, especially over something as important as politics, yet I believe that's (yet another) reflection on how human beings are.
O_O You have greater willpower than me, since I would have dropped everything right then and there and browsed. Those sound soooooooooo interesting! D: *extremely jealous* My grandparents survived the war in their backyards, so that topic has always been interesting to me.
My take on page two is that naivety is not always a good thing when it comes to how to do one's job ('cause let's face it, being naive is being unaware of certain aspects of things and you need to know all aspects of your job to do it correctly), but in the long-run and most cases, it isn't all that bad. Naivety, in general, is usually associated with innocence. Quite possibly, the term "ignorant" might be more applicable in some cases of the over-use of "naive"... but then again, I don't know exactly which stories you're watching/reading so I cannot properly judge them. "Ignorant" also has a very negative tone in most cases, so I would guess even "unaware" would be good as well. >>
As a more conservative individual who likes to look at both sides of the issue before making political decisions, I deplore the media feud that goes on between Fox News, the rest of the news media and the politicians. It's bad enough that the politicians themselves are too far towards the extremes to be of much use, but for the news anchors to also buy in to that whole sham is disgraceful. That's why I could never be a journalist. Putting one spin or another on something that I know I shouldn't would rip me apart... and I know there is no such thing as "no-spin" news. It doesn't exist, ever. It's like how judges aren't supposed to have political affiliations, but they still end up ruling in favor of one doctrine over another. Ah, neutrality... how unattainable it is. D:<

Oh wow, that would have been really cool to see. ^^ Other than what they teach in history, I don't know a lot about the war.
I find politics confusing. It always seems like they do nothing but bicker and fight like little kids. I'd get spanked if I behaved like that. o_o
