Fixing Up Saint Goblin
I've been updating some of the dialog and art in Saint Goblin before I progress further into the story. If you're interested in the updated version, it can be found on Global Comix or the official Saint Goblin comic site. However, I'm gonna leave the old version up on theOtaku because I didn't save those files on my computer! I didn't realize my mistake until I had overwritten the comic pages.
Saint Goblin Pg. 8 Raw Inks!
So I don't really ever get a chance to show off what my inked comic art looks like before it gets colored digitally, so here is the next page of Saint Goblin in black and white!
This was one of the last two pages I drew using graphite for some of the shading. I bought my gray scale ink set soon after finishing page 9, so I stopped using graphite after this.
I won't be able to color this page until Friday because of my busy schedule this week. But I've got plenty of new pages freshly inked and ready to be scanned! Stay tuned!
New Art Supplies!
I got some new fountain pens from five below the other day. The set included 2 pens, one with an EF nib and the other a XF nib, and four ink cartridges. EF stands for Extra Fine, but so does XF, which is a little confusing.
I wish I could do some fancy calligraphy, but my penmanship is horrific. Instead I just hack away at a page, laying down ink like a butcher. It often feels like I'm drawing with a knife! Sometimes I draw so hard that I cut into the paper...
I wanted a real chance to test my new pens, so I worked all night on a drawing of a character design I've had stored away in my sketchbook. She doesn't have a name yet or a comic that she belongs to, so she's one of my many homeless OCs. She was originally designed with my comic, Saint Goblin, in mind. However, as you can see, her design is too cute not to have a story of her own!
Now, I'm no nib expert but the blue pen with the XF nib felt like it laid down more ink, so it was my choice for outlining the piece and filling in black areas. The detail work, such as the cross-hatching, hair, and embroidery, was done mostly with the green pen with the EF nib. This nib felt finer than the XF nib.
thinking of a new title for duchess in dreamland
I'm going to change the name of my comic. The reason is because Natalya is a Grand Duchess, not a Duchess. There is a difference, a Grand Duchess is higher than a Duchess. Also, Grand Duchess in Dreamland isn't as catchy as Duchess in Dreamland. Here are a few other titles I was thinking of:
- Fantastic Doll
- Monarchy X Anarchy
- Sweet Dreamer
- The Grand Duchess
- Lullaby of Natalya
- The Fantasist
- Melodic Doll
- Aristocrats Fantasia
I thought about making a Russian title too, for example, instead of Fantastic Doll I would use Fantastichyeskaya Kukla but when transliterated like that in English it looks like gibberish.
I'd really like to use the word fantasia as part of the title because it could be taken as a musical composition or a fantasy, both are relevant to the story. I also like fantastic and doll but I want to keep it simple, nothing like The Tale of a Living Doll and Her Knights.
Throughout my story there is a power struggle between the monarchists and anarchists, but in the end it all boils down to bringing the world out of sleep. I suppose with a story like this there would be alot of flexibility for a title but I'm just so indecisive!
